DARREN LIPINSKI MEMORIAL AWARD
 
The recipient of the 2009 Darren Lipinski Memorial Award was born andraised in Toronto. She was involved in many sports, including softball.   In 1980, she wasrecruited by Bob Stayner to play for the Harmony Centre Ladies Softball team,
which won the 1980 Canadian Senior Ladies Championship.  She continuedplaying for Harmony until the end of the 1984 season. 
 
She moved to Lloydminsterwith her job and began her coaching career.  In 1985 and 1986 she coached theLloydminster Midget Girls to back to back gold medals at the Canadian MidgetChampionships.  She was named Alberta’sMinor Coach of the Year in 1986.
 
In 1987 she moved back to Saskatoon and began an 8 year stint coachingLorne’s Lazers, taking the team from midget to junior and then to thesenior level at the national level , before returning to coaching the juniorage class.  During this time period she began her career with Softball Canada. From 1989 until 1994 she was an assistant coach with the Canadian Junior LadiesNational Team which attended the World Championship in Australia in 1991.  In 1995 shejoined the coaching staff for the Canadian Senior Ladies Team which attendedthe 1996 Olympics in Atlanta
 
In 1995, she was named the coach for Team Saskatchewan, leading the team to a silvermedal at the Western Canada Games in B.C.  She continued with Team Sask
for the next two seasons, taking the team to an invitational tournamentin Denver in 1996 and then to the Canada Gamesin Brandon, Manitoba in 1997.  The team finished secondin their pool and fourth overall at the Canada Games

This individual was not only involved with sports, but also was involvedin the community.  She was very instrumental in the establishment of“Senior Power” , a dinner theatre program offered to seniors in Saskatoon.  This programwas started in 1987 and is still running today.  She received a PoliceCommunity Service Award for this program.
 
In 2008, our recipient went back to her roots and started to coachagain at the midget level in Saskatoon. She has applied to coach again in 2010.
 
She was inducted into the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame in 2008 and iscurrently employed as an instructor at SIAST Kelsey campus.
