HOW "SWEDE" IT IS !!
The Rick McDonald Memorial Fastball League 's defending champions started the year a little bit slowly and found themselves in the unfamiliar position of fourth place in league standings just prior to the beginning of the playoff run .. Jordy "Swede" Dahlvick , the veteran he is started late in the regular season but still finished as top league pitcher with a perfect 5-0 record and an ERA of 1,53 .
Once the playoff started he got into his groove and nothing was going to stop him .His only blemish from the rest of the way was game two of the semi finals when Paul Lizotte of the Garson Hounds pitched a perfect game for Dahlvick's only loss as he finished with a record of 7-1 and a miniscule ERA of 1,08 .. In this final game of the championship series , Dahlvick was at his best once again limiting the Cardinals batters to just 3 hits and fanning 8 batters for the 7-0 victory and a 3-1 championship series victory . The Dog House North Stars always a class act permitted a non member of the Cardinals to finish the game because of injury and therefore preventing the Pickerel boys from losing by forfieth . Troy Chatwell, Pitou Paquette and Moe Coutu all hit 1 for 3 for the victorious North Stars while Pat Brennan Jr and Jonathan Contin hit 1 for 2 in a losing cause for the Cardinals. Starter Jonathan Contin went all the way and was tagged for the loss on 4 hits while striking out 3 batters. Pat Brennan Jr of the Cardinals was awarded the outstanding sportmanship award for the playoffs ; Moe Coutu of the North Stars won the playoff batting crown at 588 (10/17) and Jordy Dahlvick picked the top pitcher award at 7-1 and also the playoff MVP.
Congratulations to our league champions the Dog House Sportsbar North Stars for a second straight year and the third time in the last four years!
The media , the sponsors , the Greater City of Sudbury , the players , the fans and friends of fastball are once again reminded of the annual Banquet/Awards Celebration being held in three weeks on Saturday October the 17th at the Royal Hotel in Garson next to the Arena. Festivities get underway at approx. 6:30 PM with Cocktails .
If you are a member of one of the league teams , your rep has already given me the number of your people attending the celebration . For all others , sponsors ,media personnel , Greater City of Sudbury ,the blue crew, friends , fans please RSVP me via my email no later than Saturday October the 10th on your intentions to appear .
