LIZOTTE HURLS A PERFECT GAME

Back in early September during the second game of the best of five semi finals between the Garson Hounds and the Dog House Sportsbar North Stars , the clocks in a sense were turned back .With long time star pitcher Brad Rienguette in attendance at the Lorne Brady Memorial Park in Garson , a hurler from a similar era put on a performance to remember . Forty-something chucker , Paul Lizotte faced the minimum 21 batters leading the Garson Hounds past Dog House 3-0 and tying the best of five series at a game apiece .
Ironically , the pitching gem would occur at Lorne Brady Memorial Park in Garson , the very field where both Lizotte and Rienguette spent much of their youth developping their skills on the mound that would lead them both to countless succee at both the provincial and national level .
Drawing inspiration from the ailing friend (at the time fighting a courageous battle with pancreatic/liver cancer) , Lizotte rturned in a masterful performance ,striking out nine batters and helping his own cause at the plate going 2 for 3 . At the up coming year end banquet/awards celebration on October 17th  , a tribute will be done for Brad while Paul will be honored for his feat by the Greater City of Sudbury

                                                               PITCHERS PUT ON A CLINIC

A few weeks ago the Parry Island Hawks fastball team put on their second annual Fall Fastball Tournament . Some six teams took part in the event . At random all teams took part in three opening round games to determine the seeding prior to the playoff round .
Here are the results of those opening six games : Parry Island hawks defeat the Parry Island Hawks Juniors 5-0 on Jordy "Swede" Dahlvick's no hitter and 12 strike outs ; Magnatewan Native Sons dump the Whitefish Lake Extreme 9-6 where veteran  Johnny Kakaggins picks up the victory ; Simcoe Lightning shut outs Saugeen 7-0 on Gregg Gerruti's no hitter and 9 K's ;Parry Island Hawks Juniors romp to a 11-4 victory over the Whitefish Extreme on "Pistol " Pete MacKenzie's 8 hitter and 5 strike outs ; Simcoe Lightning mercy the Native Sons 13-0 in three innings on Gerruti's 2 hitter and five strike outs ;Parry Island Hawks shut out and mercy the Extreme 12-0 on Matt Tobobundung's 1 hitter and 5 strike outs in three innings of play ; Saugeen Rez Ryders get the better of the Magnatewan Native Sons 8-3 on Dave Root's 5 hitter and 16 strike outs ;Simcoe Lightning defeat bthe Parry Island Hawks Juniors 4-1 on the stenght of Gregg Gerruti's 5 hitter and 10 K's  and finally the Parry Island Hawks in a triller come from behind to edge the Saugeen Ryders 4-2 on Jonathan Contin's strong pitching performance and clutch hitting by their young bucks ..Jody Dahlvick gets the save in the 7th frame .

     Playoff round

In the Consolation Final the 5th seeded Magnatewan Native Sons took on the 6th seed  whitefish Lake First Nation Extreme . The Extreme took an early 8-1 strong lead and seemed on their way to a win until the unexpected occured when the Magnatewan Native Sons exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth frame and added two more in in the seventh to come from behind and win an exciting dramatic comeback victory 9 to 8 .
In nthe cahampionship semi finals bothg power houses Simcoe Lightning and the host Parry Island Hawks proved to strong for their semi final opponents both winning going away .The Lightning defeated Saugeen 10-0 and the Parry Island Hawks defearted their counterparts the Juniors of Parry Island 9 to 1 ..

    Championship final

from the outset we knew we were in for a treat with the tournament's top pitchers finally facing each other . It was crafty 45 year old veteran of many campaigns Jordy "Swede" Dahlick facing 31 year old experienced ISC pitcher Gregg Gerruti . We were not disappointed . The score remained scoreless after four complete innings of play holding much of filled out stands on the edge of their seats waiting for something to develop offensively against these fine pitchers and excellent infielders . Dahlvick depended mostly on ground outs with his drop and rise ball , the odd strike out thrown in while Gerruti went with his power having struck out 14 batters at that point and not giving up a single hit . The break one of the teams were waiting for arrived in the bottom of the fifth frame when the Hawk's second baseman misjudged two bloopers over his head which eventually cost two key runs  , the turning point of the game . The Lighting scored two more in the sixth and held on for a  4-0 championship victory .Gerrutti pitched all five games for his team and was named without a doubt the tournasment MVP
