Dean Oscar's dad passes
November 6, 2009
Donald E. Oscar, age 84, of Black Earth, WI, died on Wednesday, November 4,
2009 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on September 2, 1925 in Madison, WI to Elliott "Dode" & Anne
Mabel (Davenport) Oscar. On October 14, 1950, Oscar married Noreen E.
Kelliher in Madison, WI. He was a USA Army infantry veteran during World War
II serving in European African Middle Eastern Theater. He graduated from
Whitewater State Teachers College and later received his Masters Degree in
Guidance and Counseling from UW-Stout. Upon graduating from college, he
taught and coached in Stoughton High School for one year before moving to
Black Earth where he taught, coached, and was a guidance counselor and
athletic director at Black Earth and then Wisconsin Heights High School for
34 years.
He was an avid fast pitch softball pitcher and played until age
72. After many years of officiating track and field and cross country
including multiple state WIAA championships, Oscar was inducted in 2001 into
the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame for outstanding
contributions to the sport.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Noreen;

Dean (Susan) Oscar of Reedsburg,
Karen (Jamie Mullen) Oscar of Madison;
5 grandchildren:
Kyle Vidlock,
Samantha Oscar,
Elliott Oscar,
Kari Vidlock,
Elizabeth Oscar;
a great granddaughter: Thalia Benson;
two sisters:
Janet Hemling of Appleton and
Joanne (Gilbert) Schlimgen of Madison;
and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Oscar.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 9,
2009 at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH in Cross Plains with Fr. Tom
Kelley officiating. Friends may call from 12 noon until 3:00 PM on Sunday,
November 8, 2009 at
ELLESTAD CAMACHO FUNERAL HOME, 1710 Center Street, Black
Earth, WI. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund will be
established in Donald's name.
