Subject:  the countdown is on!! - Monkton 2006.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monkton, Ont.

It's official!
The countdown to the opening pitch of the tourny has begun. I say this because the huge "BUD - LIGHT" beer tent was erected last night - and thus - we here in Monkton begin final preparations for the big week-end.
I personally can tell you, time is drawing near as both my body and mind are working overtime, and I've begun the traditional "lack of sleep" routine that comes this time in June!!

All that said, the only issue we may have (and it's a small one at that) is weather. Mother nature is wreaking havoc on tournaments across North America so far this season, and it seems like we may have do deal with a very small chance of light showers on Thurs and perhaps early Friday. Weather radar on site tells us we have a 30% chance of light rain on Thurs, 30% early Friday, but mostly sunny on Sat. and Sunday!
Temps will be great for playing (and watching!) ball, as forecast highs will range from 22 - 25 degreees celcius (thats 72 - 78 for our American friends).

As I've mentioned in earlier updates, the town looks fantastic!!  Residents have gone "over the top" with showcasing their homes and business' for our guests!  Thanks to all you who have decorated your homes!! - you've all outdone yourselves once again! (I write this because I know they're reading!)

To those of you who are considered local, you may have heard the many promotional spots, sports reports, and phone interviews with various team coaches, owners, managers, and such on the radio station that will carry our final game live - AM920.    If you wish to catch some of these, tune into their web-casts at www.am920.com and click to listen live.  Hourly sports reports showcase these interviews each day right thru to the end of the tourny.  My good friend Jim Flanigan of www.fastpitchwest.com will also carry a link to listen live thru his site. Thanks Jim!!

I'd like to take this opportunity to ask all of you who read this to remember both Doug Gillis and Paul Algar in your thoughts and prayers. As many know, Doug suffered a stroke last week, and Paul took a line-drive to the face this past week-end in Eau-Claire.  Doug of course, is a member of the Midland Explorers, who will be making the trip without him this week-end, and Paul who pitches for the Heflin Gremlins -  is "unsure" at this time as to his status. Best wishes to them both on speedy recoveries!

Thats all for now folks - I've gotta get over to the ball-park.

Will send another update in the morning - Wed.
