The Thomson Area Merchants completed a busy 7 game program over last weekend, split over the Iowa Area ISC qualifier and also the Northern Illinois Travel League.

Starting off in Walcott on Friday evening Thomson went down 5-2 to the Quad City Sox in the winners bracket semi final game. Thomson did have opportunities to put more runs on the board but were contained well by Quad City Sox pitcher Al Rebling. After losing this game Thomson backed up to play the Quad City Door in the losers bracket. On the back of a 2 home runs and a one-hit pitching performance by Dean Zink Thomson rebounded for a 8-0 mercy rule win to ensure there participation on championship day.

On Saturday Thomson beat out Walcott Merchants 4-0 and Reasoner 3-0 to progress through to the Championship game, once again vs the Quad City Sox. Home runs to Zinc in both games were highlights of the offensive performance.

In the championship game Zinc, and relief pitcher Jonas Mach, held Quad City Sox down to 3 hits in an excellent combined pitching performance. However an inability to string hits together vs. Rebling again proved to be Thomson's downfall. The Sox ending up with the win 2-0.

2nd place in Walcott guarantees Thomson a direct berth to the ISC 2 tournament in Kitchener. Pending a late invite to the ISC tournament Thomson looks forward to a tough week of ISC 2 softball in which we hope to be able to challenge for the title.

On Sunday Thomson played 2 games in the Northern Illinois Travel League. Starting out the day with a 2-0 record in the league Thomson played Richwrap in a double header on our home fields. After coasting to a 7-1 victory in the first game a spirited Richwrap performance in the 2nd game led to a 2-1 loss. Whilst disappointed with the loss, the 7th game of a long and hot Mid-West weekend, Thomson remains 3-1 in the league, and will next play the Hustle Hogs on July 21st.
