NORTH STARS CAPTURE 11TH ANNUAL RICK McDONALD MEMORIAL FASTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

A few days ago the Sudbury North Stars captured the 11th annual Rick McDonald Memorial Fastball Championship . Some five teams took part in the event ; North Stars ,Garson Hounds ,Whitefish Lake First Nation Steelers , Pickerel River Cardinals and the Sagamok Rez Riders . The North Stars lost only one game in round robin action to the Rez Riders but then again met these same Rez  Riders from Sagamok in the final championship game. It was a game of many hits and runs which fans love to see . The Rez Riders came out flying in the opening inning scoring five runs and leading 5-0 after one frame . Good pitching and a five run lead would normally be quite enough to win a game but it was not the case in this game .The North Stars veterans that they are scored 4 runs in the second inning to move within one run .The Sagamok crew scored just one more in the middle frames and then the North Stars exploded for 12 more runs winning going away 16 to 6 . Jordy "Swede " Dalvick was the winning pitcher . Top hitters for the champions were Lanny Fichette going a perfect 4 for 4 (double, home run , 4 RBI's) .Teammates Chad St Cyr and Steve Sabourin chipped in with 2 for 5 performances  (home run each). Moe Coutu and Junior Ilnitski hit 3 for 5.
In regular season action earlier in the week , the North Stars continued their early season undefeated streak  with an 11-8 victory over the Garson Hounds .. It was their fourth strait victory . John Ainslie(3-0) was the winner picking up his 3 win of the season . He picked up 7 strike outs to give him 26 in three outings giving up 10 hits and issuing 3 base on balls . Matt Behn(0-0) , in his first outing of the season suffered the loss giving up 13 hits while striking out one batter and issuing 2 walks. Jesse St Cyr went 3 for 3 (home run ,three runs scored and 1 run batted in) .Teammate Steve Sablourin continued his torrid pace with a 3 for 4 performance (home run ,run scored and 3 runs batted in ) . Steve now leads the league with an 800 avrg including 8 runs batted in ..
A full report on both Wednesday's and Thursday's doubleheader will be out on Friday.
