Hello fastpitch world. Another Boys of Summer Open Fastpitch tournament
has come and gone and turned out to be very successful again this year.
First, the tournament staff would like to send our condolences to
California A's for their loss last week making them unable to attend the
tournament.
We would like to congratulate the Minnesota Angels on their 3-1 victory
over The Bar of Appleton in the championship game which was slightly
shortened due to a blast of rain that I have never witnessed before. With
the win the Angels become the 1st team to qualify for the 2011 World
Tournament.
All of the tournament games were highly competitive and well played. I'd
like to take a little time to thank some of the people that make this
thing happen each and every year. First, we need to thank Darren Derricks
of Circle Tap for continuing to support the game of fastpitch and hosting
one of the most prestigious regular season tournaments of the year at his
fine facility. We would also like to thank Karen Conrod for her
tremendous scorekeeping and announcing skills, paired with Hank DeWild's
online program, which supplied you with the box scores and play by play in
a very timely manor. Thanks to Hank St. Claire who was the umpire in
chief of the event, he did all of the recruiting and scheduling of the
umpires, and to all of the fine umpires of the event. Thank you to Dan
"Buddha" Haas for selecting the all-tournament team which has been posted
on Al's along with the box scores. Thank you to Dean Oscar, ISC
president, who was present to present the awards and over-see the
tournament, however the major rain storm washed the presentations out into
the tavern. Thank you to the Circle Tap wait and cook staff who did a
tremendous job all weekend. The biggest thank you goes to Mark Loritz and
his staff of Justin Loritz and Josh Leiterman for their never ending
facilities and diamond care as well as some minor finger "surgery" for an
Angel's player.
There will be a Boys of Summer event in 2011. We are hoping to keep this
tournament going and as strong as possible and hope to expand the field
next year to levels we've had in the past.
A final thank you for all of the guys that filled in on the Circle Tap
team, and Denny Bruckert for coming up and coaching the team. It was fun
to put on the old uniform and be part of the game again.
