Kiwis on top at Friendship Series
Tuesday July 4th 2006 

After three days of round robin play in the Friendship Series in SydneyAustralia the New Zealand under 19 men’s Development team sit at the topof the points table.

On day three of the tournament today the Kiwi team have picked up anothertwo wins defeating New South Wales Metro 7-2 and New South Wales Country8-0 with power hitting a feature of the New Zealand sides play.

In the opening game this morning against NSW Metro Te Rangi Chadwick fromHawkes Bay was the star with the bat hitting a home run with one runneron base. Also contributing wit the bat was Auckland’s Joshua Cooke whopicked up two RBI’s in the game. On the mound for New Zealand was JamieLove of Auckland who kept control of the game well only giving up twohits in the game.

The Kiwi team was just as strong in their second game of the day todayagainst NSW Country as they were convincing winners 8-0. The New Zealandteam were always in control of the game as they scored four runs in thefirst inning before adding two more in the second and another two in thethird.

Kyle Beaudoin of Canterbury was strong with the bat hitting a home runand picking up two RBI’s while Patrick Langolin from Auckland smashed athree base hit. David McKenzie from Counties started the game for NewZealand and he was dominant giving up just two hits in the game whiletaking six strikeouts. James Pointon of Wellington closed the game outfor New Zealand on the mound pitching the final inning.

The New Zealand team will be looking to continue their strong formtomorrow when they have three more round robin games scheduled againstAustralia Gold (3pm NZ time), Australia Green (7pm NZ time) and Titans(9pm NZ time).

Junior White Sox team.
Also taking to the diamond today were the Junior White Sox team. Theyplayed their opening game at the international Canada Cup Futurestournament in Vancouver, Canada.

The Junior White Sox opened their Canada Cup campaign with a defeat todayat the hands of the Twin City T-Birds 7-0. The Kiwi team will be lookingfor a change of fortunes tomorrow when they take on Surrey Storm at6.30am (NZ time).
