Kitchener Wins OASA title in Waterloo

Kitchener Hallman Rivershark Twins won the OASA Senior Fastball
championship over Owen Sound Verge Selects Wednesday nite at
Waterloo's Hillside Park.



The R Twins won the first game of the Double Header, both 5 inning
affairs, 8 - 2 on 12 hits, including a 3 run blast from third baseman
Jody Eidt and a 3 RBI nite from Dave Bailey. Todd Martin picked up the
win in the first game of the double header allowing 2 runs, on 4 hits
and striking out 6 Grant Patterson allowed 2 hits and had 2 strike outs
in relief.

Owen Sound picked up a run in the 3rd. a solo homer from Scott Lealess
to lead off the inning. With one out in the 4th catcher Adam
Dearborn cleared left field for Owen Sounds 2nd run.

Matt Leahy lasted only 1 1/3 innings falling behind early and often to
the powerhitting R Twins. Brad Robinson releived Leahy with 8 runs on
the board for Kitchener on 9 hits. Robinson allowed 3 hits, one walk
and recorded 2 strike outs.

In the second game Kitchener short stop Rowan Lam, opened the scoring
with a homerun in the top of the third. Owen Sound scored in the home
half of the inning when Brant Thompson sacrificed Frank Lang to second,
Jamie Robinson moved Thompson to 3rd with a single, and leadoff hitter
Ben Wideman RBId for the Selects.

Owen Sounds catcher Adam Dearborn cracked another dinger out of the park
for the Selects 2nd run, and all that they would need to pick up the win.

The two games, one to each club, and with tiebreaker rules in effect for
the two game series, Kitchener Rivershark Twins are repeat champions,
and head to the nationals as OASA 2010 Champs as well as defending
Canadian Champs. Owen Sound as a provincial finalist will represent Ontario
in PEI as well.

It was great to see a good crowd out to watch a couple of great teams, old
rivals on a ball diamond that has seen many battles between these two clubs.

The next fastball action at Hillside Park is the OASA Men's
championships this weekend. Ten teams will compete for the 2010
championship, and a berth in the ISCs as well. The KW Cubs hope you will come
out and enjoy some great fastball. Admittance is by donation to the OASA
Scholarship Fund. Jim Uhrig will be serving cold Brick Draft and Bob Thomson has
his famous Beef-on-a-bun on the menu.
