HOUSTON ACES Finalists at the Glowworm Tournament - San Antonio, Texas. The Houston Aces fastball club ventured across the state to play in the 42nd Annual Glowworm Tournament in San Antonio, Texas. The Aces played 7 games in the 19 team double knockout tournament, 3 games on Saturday and 4 games on Sunday. The ACES were 3-0 in Saturday's contests as originally reported on Al's Fastball.
On early Sunday morning the rains came and delayed the start of action by 4 hours. All Sunday’s games were move to a single diamond to allow the games to continue since the original diamonds require extensive clean-up from the heavy rains. In the undefeated game (go to game) the ACES lost a tight 2-1 squeaker to the HIS Construction team. The ACES sat one game and then played Luina's Towing - Arizona with the winner to take on HIS Construction in the finals. The ACES won this game 4-1 against Luina's Towing. The ACES then played HIS Construction in the finals and had to beat them 2 games in order to take the championship. In the first game the ACES were to beat HIS Construction 5-0 with good pitching from Panfillo Valdez and timely hitting. The second game was a nail bitter that lasted into the wee hours of the morning (12:30 am) as the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie after the regulation 7 innings. In the eighth inning due to injuries, and fatigue the HIS Constriction team finally outlasted the Houston ACES in an 8-1 defeat. The final score was indicative of the play with the Houston Aces having a number of opportunities to win this affair. The final game results for the Houston Aces are below with player awards.
