                                                                                THE GARSON HOUNDS CLINCH SECOND PLACE
 
                                                      Just 11 regular season games away and two weeks left in the schedule ,the Garson Hounds picked up an important come from behind 5-4 victory over the Whitefish Lake First Nation Steelers on Thursday night in Garson to secure the important second place in the five team circuit . The young Steelers hot  of late led all the way with a 4-2 advantage after 4 frames but the veteran Hounds playing with only 8 players came from behind in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring three runs including a solo home run by Todd Parsons ( his third of the season) to solidify the victory . Gary Lamothe(7-5) , his seventh win of the season , went the distance giving up 4 runs ( all earned) on 10 hits while striking out 4 and not issuing a single base on balls . Danny Nootchtai (0-4) started for the Steelers and suffered the mound victory (his fourth of 2010) and gave way to Henry Nootchtai in the sixth for three batters .Both pitchers combined to give up 5 runs ( all earned ) on 6 hits while fanning 2 batters  and issuing one single base on balls . Dan Quesnel led the way for the Hounds going 2 for 3 at the plate (double , 2 runs scored ,RBI ) while Quinton Recollet hit 2 for 3 (double, 2 RBI's) in a losing cause for the Steelers .
                                                       In the nightcap for a second time in three games , the Hawks from Parry Island erupted for 15 runs and 17 hits on their way to a convincing 15-1 victory over the Pickerel River Cardinals . Percy Tobobundung(1-3)went the distance in picking up his first victory of the season giving up but one run (earned) on 3 base hits while striking out 5 batters and issuing 3 base on balls . Ed Brennan started for the Cardinals and suffered the loss giving up Qhinton Ashawasagai in the fifth frame .Both pitchers combined to give up 15 runs ( 13 earned ) on 17 hits while fanning 5 batters and  not issuing a single base on balls . Percy Tobobundung helped his own cause in going a perfect 4 for 4 at the dish ( two triples ,double ,4 runs scored , 3 RBI's) with teammates  Rich Jason (double , home run ,3 runs scored , RBI) and Matt Tobobundung (double , home run - his fourth of the season to tie him for the league lead , 2 RBI's) both hitting 3 for 4 . Ed "Shaq" Jr Panamick  ( brand new father of an 8 lb 3 ounces baby boy ,mother Alexis - came into the world on July 28th at midnight) hit 1 for 2 (double) in a losing cause for the Cardinals .
                                                       Because of the Civic Holiday Weekend there will be no games on Monday in Azilda .League play resumes next Wednesday night  in Whitefish Lake when at 7 PM the Pickerel River Cardinals take on the Garson Hounds followed by the nightcap under the lights scheduled for 9 PM when the  Parry Island Hawks battle the host team Whitefish Lake First Nation Steelers . 
                                                         The interest for this year's edition of the 5TH Annual Northern Ontario "Brad Rienguette" Ladies and Men's Fastball Championships or the Shamou Shoot Out is very big . We are now looking at at least some 12 solid men's teams and 4 to 6 ladies entrants . The deadline is not over but the date to secure your position in the tournament is fast approaching that being Thursday August the 5th . The deadline for entry is Friday August the 15th . We will accept all teams until the 15th of August . The more the entries the better the prize money will be .There will also be individual prizes for MVP's and most sportsmanlike players for each game plus individual prizes for each member of the winning teams .
                                                         We are putting out a call for all former players (now fastball legends) , ladies and men as well as umpires to come out to the opening game and ceremonies of August the 20th at 6:30 PM in Azilda to be present as we will honor them .If you are going to be present please email me at (er_legendre@sympatico.ca) with a small historical resume on yourself-it would be greatly appreciated .
