Junior Women's National Team begins III Pan American Championship Today


(Bogota, Colombia) The Canadian Junior Women's National Team will be looking to secure a berth in the 2011 ISF IX Junior Women's World Championship this week, as they will be one of 13 countries competing at the III Pan American Championship in Bogota, Colombia. Canada will open their tournament schedule against Brazil at 4:30pm EDT today. The top four teams from each of the two divisions will advance to the playoff round.

Team Canada finished fifth at the 2007 ISF VIII Junior Women's World Championship in Enschede, Netherlands. In three exhibition games played over the past few days, they defeated Colombia 11-6, lost to the United States 8-2 and defeated Brazil 17-0.

The other countries competing in the III Pan American Championship are: Argentina, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, the Netherlands Antilles, Peru, Puerto Rico, the United States and Venezuela. The top five teams will earn a spot at the ISF IX Junior Women's World Championship, which will take place in Cape Town, South Africa in December of 2011.
