Hi Al

Both semi final series in the Niagara Falls Men's playoff's were closed out last night setting up a finals rematch from last year, Tazco vs Niagara Fury. The final will start Tuesday Sept 7th 7:30 pm.

The first game of the evening saw the Hooligans Dawgs jump out to an early 2-0 lead on the Fury and their starter Ray Carr in the first as Gerry Bongers (single) and Steve Lacombe (hit by pitch) would both score. The game was close to the 4rth when the Fury would break it open with 2 runs in the third, 5 in the fourth highlighted by a Mark Korten grand slam and 4 in the fifth including a 2 run single by Phil John.  Steve Veenstka would homer for the Dawgs, Butch Provost mopped up with two innings of scoreless relief of Carr.

The second game of the evening saw Tazco's Ronny Winger up against Garden City Lizards Danny Duemo. A combination of aggressive baserunning and great outfield defense saw the Lizards have at least 4 runners thrown out on the basepaths in the first couple innings including Tazco's OF Steve Train gunning a guy at third and home in the same inning. Tazco's Jeff Kraneyk had a big two out rbi double in the fifth and James Atkinson had the eventual game winning RBI single.
Tom  Berube would come in to secure the win with a 3 innings of relief of Winger. The Lizards down 3-2 in the 7th get lead off hitter Dan Edholm on with a single. The Lizards have the hit and run on and the batter makes contact and looks to be a tough play for the Tazco infield but Edholm is called out for leading off. The Lizards dont like the call and Berube would get out of the inning and secure the win.
