SOFTBALL ONTARIO SEEKS A CHAIRMAN FOR IT’S COACHES COMMITTEE
NORTH YORK, ONTARIO – Softball Ontario is now accepting applications for the position of its Coaching Committee Chairman.  The successful candidate will be an active part in Softball Ontario’s National Coaching Certification Program, which is an education opportunity for Coaches across Ontario to enhance their coach education.  
To help Softball Ontario run a successful Coaching Program, we are looking for a Chairman who will take on the task of attending and governing all the Coaching Committee meetings and overseeing operations in conjunction with committee members and the Softball Ontario staff member to ensure assigned tasks are completed by their deadlines. Knowledge and experience in Coach is a requirement.
Highlights of the qualifications and responsibilities of the Softball Ontario’s Coaches Committee Chairman include:
To schedule, establish an agenda and chair committee meetings
To delegate duties as required to committee members and follow up on the completion of these duties
To communicate closely with Softball Ontario Program Coordinator, Softball Ontario o Board of Directors
To determine the 2010 Softball Ontario’s Coaching Committee budget (with assistance of committee members)
To prepare and present the Coaching Program report to Softball Ontario Board of Directors at their January and October meetings
To organize and ensure the smooth running of Coach Instructor Training Clinic
To ensure the delivery of the National Coaching Certification Program
To oversee Coaches Symposium

In the coming weeks the Softball Ontario Umpires Committees will collect and evaluate all applications, and choose a candidate for approval by the Softball Ontario Board of Directors. Softball Ontario is confident that the Coaches Program will be a huge success and will produce future Coaches of tomorrow.

SOFTBALL ONTARIO SEEKS MEMBERS FOR ITS COACHING COMMITTEE! 
NORTH YORK, ON- Softball Ontario's Coaching Committee is pleased to announce three (3) openings on the Coaching Committee. Coaching Committee Volunteers are an essential part in the delivery of Softball Ontario's National Coaching Certification Program including Learn to Coach; Keep Coaching; Competition-Introduction, Softball; Level III Technical Softball and Minor Development clinics. Successful candidates will take a leadership role in the development of the Coaching Program in Ontario and will assist the Coaching Committee Chairman in setting program goals and objectives, representing the Coaching Program and working to provide Coach Education in the Province of Ontario.
Coaching Committee members will be expected to attend all committee meetings (approximately two (2) per year) as well as facilitate two (2) National Coaching Certification Program clinics. Ideally, a Coaching Committee Member will have experience coaching softball in addition to the following qualifications:

•Keen interest in Coaching Development and Education  
•Strong Communication and Administrative Skills
•Willingness to complete tasks assigned by the Chairman
•Coaching Experience is a definite asset
The Coaching Committee is currently involved in the following programs, with more projects underway:
•The National Coaching Certification Program for Softball in the Province of Ontario at the Community Sport and Competitive Stream
•International Coaching Symposium with Softball Canada

TRY AND GET ACTIVE WITH SOFTBALL THIS FALL!
NORTH YORK, ONTARIOAre you looking for FUN and EXCITING new programs to get your students energized during the fall months? Softball Ontario has the COMPLETE package available for FREE! Softball Ontario offers TWO great Programs for different age groups- which allows for participants of ALL ages to enjoy learning the great game of softball! Upon request each teacher will receive instructions, full set of equipment with game, activity books and AWESOME FREE giveaways for all students!

The TRY Softball Program has been used in hundreds of schools and camps across Ontario allowing thousands of students to play a modified version of softball. Teachers are loaned free softball equipment and provided with manuals introducing BlastBall and Softball Canada’s Learn to Play Program. What is BlastBall? BlastBall and Learn to Play are great programs designed to introduce the sport of softball to children.  The programs foster the development of all players, including players with high and low skill levels. Try Softball is geared towards children aged 4-10 years.

The ACTIVE Softball Program focuses on developing softball skills and creating interest in the game of softball for children aged 10-14 years. The program introduces combinations of loco-motor movements using different speeds, and direction in relation to using softball equipment and mini fitness drills. Active Softball can be used INDOORS during raining days! Active Softball picks up where Softball Ontario’s Try Softball Program left off! The Active Softball Program includes:

      · A Set of Six (6) Playing Pieces and Dice
      · A “Rules and Skills” Guide (yours to keep!)
      · Activity Cards
      · An Equipment Set, including:

To address any concerns, all of the equipment is manufactured using child-safe materials; the bat and ball are made of a soft foam material, removing safety concerns that are created by aluminum bats and hard balls. There are no equipment requirements for the students, as all the required equipment is provided!

New for the 2010-2011 school year is the Softball Skills Test Challenge Manual now included in all Active Softball Kits! The Manual will help teachers determine their students’ skill level in softball.   Teachers can also use the Softball Skills Test to evaluate students on their basic movement skills and concepts of health eating. Each of the skills evaluated in the Skills Test Challenge fit within the 2010 Health and Physical Education Curriculum!



If you request to use an Active Softball Kit for the months of September and October 2010, your school will automatically be placed in a draw to WIN 1 of 20 Throw-Down Base Sets for your school! (Perfect for both indoor and outdoor use). Please note that all participating schools are expected to return the Kit to the Softball Ontario office at the school’s expense- Contact the Softball Ontario office for more details!
