Greater Ottawa Fastball League finals set

September 21, 2010

Ottawa, ON

OTTAWA - The Greater Ottawa Fastball League finals are set and there will be a new champion for the GOFL in 2010.

Two-time defending champion Stittsville 56ers were defeated in the semi-finals by the Kars Aces, two games to one.  Kars, the regular season pennant winner, were five-time consecutive champions from 2003-2007 under the Ottawa Team Easton name.

The Quyon COMBAT Flyers will be the other team in the final as they defeated Carp I4C Victory in three games in the other best-of-three semi-final.  Quyon, the league's only West Quebec entry finished second in league play in the GOFL and were playoff finalists in 2009.

Kars had previously defeated eighth seed North Gower in the quarter-finals, while Quyon got by the seventh seed Fitzroy Harbour West Carleton Electric.  Also winning the quarterfinals were third place Carp over the sixth place Ottawa Blitz and fourth place Stittsville over fifth place Barrhaven Broadway Blues.  All series in the first round were two games to none sweeps.

The final will get under way on Tuesday September 28 at 7:30pm at the Grove in Stittsville as Kars hosts game one, with the second game in the series in Quyon on Wednesday September 29 at 7:30pm.  Games three through five of the best-of-five final are to be determined.

Pitchers for Kars are Brad Porter and Cory Alkerton, while Drew Hathway and Joran Graham toe the rubber for the Flyers.
