Rick McDonald Memorial Fastball League Finals

September 21, 2010

Sudbury, ON

THE SUDBURY NORTH STARS CAPTURE FOURTH TITLE

Following a delay of a few days , the third game in the best of five finals was played last evening in Azilda at the Rick McDonald Memorial Park Complex .. The defending champions wasted no time scoring four runs in the opening frame on a single hit , three passed balls and one fielding error . Early errors by the Parry Island Hawks have been their demise in several games this year and this one was no difference . After starting Percy Tobobondung , their ace Matt Tobobondung came in practically shut down the North Stars the rest of the way  facing 212 batters and only six reaching base . The never say die Hawks scored three key runs in the fourth with one main two run double to centre field by sophomore Eric Legendre .We now had a 5-5 tie going to the last three innings . The North Stars score two in the bottom of the 6th while the Hawks score one more in the seventh but come up short losing a heartbreaker 7-6 .. John Ainslie (4-0) went the distance for the champions giving up 6 runs (all earned) on 7 hits while striking out 5 batters and not issuing a single base on balls . Percy Tobobondung (0-0) started for the Hawks but gave way to Matt Tobobondung (4-3) . Matt took the loss after it was tied and he was responsible for the final two runs .Both pitchers combined to give up 7 runs (5 were unearned) on 8 hits while striking out 7 batters and issuing three base bon balls . John Ainslie helped his own cause and led the way for the North Stars going a perfect 3 for 3( two runs , one RBI) at the dish with teammate Moe Coutu hitting 2 for 3 (double , run scored) while Eric Legendre hit 2 for 3 (double ,run scored ,2 RBI's) in a losing cause for the Hawks.
