Vasey Countrymen capture SRFL Title

The Tom Smith Vasey Countrymen captured their 2nd Simcoe Rural Fastball League crown with a 4-2 series win over Minesing.  The Countrymen advanced to the finals with a 4-0 series sweep of Mike Crawrford and his upcoming Uthoff Nationals, while Minesing advanced with their own 4-0 sweep of the Wyevale Tribe.

In the final game of the series, the Countrymen saddled  a solid pitching performance from moundsmen Brad Robinson for the series clincher .  Backed by a solid defensive, Robinson allowed only one run on 4 hits in his best outing of the series.  Minesing countered with Paul Priest who was relieved by Kurt Glover in the 5th and  John McNabb in the 7th.

Vasey struck first in the top of the 1st when Steve Eakley took a Priest offering over the right field fence.  Vasey would strike again in the visitors half of the 2nd when a lead-off triple by Steffan Walma was plated by a Jamie Robinson single.  After a sacrifice, Robinson would score on a Doug Dutton single to left.

The third inning saw no scoring.  The fourth inning was lead off by a Jamie Robinson single who was sacrificed to second base by a Steve Cadeau sac bunt.   Joe King followed with a single to left, Robinson tried to score from second but was gunned down at the plate by Matt Mclearn for the 2nd out of the inning.  With 2 out, Doug Dutton collected his second RBI of the game, plating Joe King on a single to shallow right.  The stage was now set for leadoff man Todd Weatherell who took a 2-1 offering to deep centre field to give the Countrymen a commanding 6-1.  Minesing threatened in the bottom half of the 4th when John McNabb was singled home by Keith Rankin.

In the top half of the 5th the Countymen struck back when singles by Joe King and Doug Dutton were plated by a towering Brad Robinson blast to deep right field, his 5th of the series.
The scoring was competed in the 7th inning when the Countrymen loaded the bases and Doug Dutton took a 3-2 offering over the centre field fence for a grand slam.

The pitching line in the series for Minesing was Paul Priest 2-1, Kurt Golver 0-3.  For Vasey it was Brad Robinson 4-1 and Jason Phillips 0-1.
