Oshawa City and District Fastball League closes the innings on another fine fastball season.
In the Campbell division The Scarborough Athletics and the Aurora Shoeless Joe’s battled for the crown. The young Scarborough team or as we like to refer to them, Owen Sound South, with a sprinkling of veteran players such as Grant Patterson, Norm Estabrooks, Brian McGuire and Bill ‘Rookie’ Fairney were victorious over the two time defending champs from Aurora. In a contrast of teams Aurora Joe’s are a veteran squad with a sprinkling of young Dambrosio’s for balance. Missing the talents of Todd Martin, two spring chickens George Karkambasis and Ken O’Sullivan carried the Joe’s to the championship round. The strong hitting and pitching of the Athletics was just too much to handle this time.
In the Brady division the strong Lake Simcoe Lightning team based in Sharon took the ever tough Stouffville Mennos to complete that round. Strong leadership from John ‘Zigs’ Zeiger, Todd Hamblin, Art Burkholder and Mike Boadway keep these teams at the top of our league every year. Thanks to both for sticking it out after missing so many games near the end of August.
A very successful season from the Paul Koert led Stouffville ‘Jones Pools’ augers well for the future of our league. Thanks to the sponsor for providing the vehicle to get it started.
Thanks to all the players, managers and sponsors for keeping our fine league going. And for the hardy and loyal group of fans who are dedicated to their various teams, thanks hope to see you next year.
As we head back to our other pursuits, curling, refereeing, coaching or in many cases back to College/University we look forward to the AAU for some, but hope all are already planning for summer 2011.
