2011 Legend's of Fastball Classic

December 6, 2010

Kitchener, ON

UPDATE JANUARY 16, 2011

While the Rivershark Twins have suspended operations for 2011 the premier tournament event in Ontario fastball will continue to bring the best of the games fast paced action to Peter Hallman Ball Yard next summer. The 8th annual  2011 Legends of Fastball Classic , June 24 to 26, will feature not only the best club teams in the world but in addition will be highlighted by the New Zealand Black Sox who will be touring Ontario during late June. The Black Sox will also be playing a number of exhibition games throughout the area and tour coordinator Larry Lynch is looking for interested teams to fill out that schedule over the next few weeks.

The Legends concept was initiated in 2004 by long time players Brain Paton, Chuck Hendricks and Lynch who were looking to recognize some of the great performers of their eras while keeping world class fastball alive. The first 4 years brought the great game back to Woodstock, Ontario, where some great teams and players plied their trade over the years. The tournament shifted to Kitchener in 2008 and remains one of the “must stops” on major tournament agendas.

One of the highlights and unique parts of the Legends weekend has been the Legend ceremony on Saturday afternoon. Over the years some of the truly great Ontario performers have been recognized for the their outstanding playing careers, their coaching successes and their commitment to the game. The 2011 ceremony will continue that tradition of excellence ..

In addition to the Black Sox, a number of teams have already committed to the Legends event, including the New York Gremlins, Chicago-New York Dominicana, Owen Sound Selects and the Kitchener Cubs. The roster of quality teams continues to grow and organizers are expecting the full schedule to be filled up early in the new year.

Teams wishing to be considered for the 2011 Legends should contact Larry Lynch at llynch9@rogers.com

Proceeds of the Legends of Fastball Classic are dedicated to the Children’s Wish Foundation local sub-chapter.
