Kitchener, ON

May 18th 2011....Fastball this week...

The Millgrove tournament
was running right on time, right up to the
moment I made my appearance at the diamonds...and then the games were
halted by the umps and the games came to a standstill early Saturday
evening...and cancelled Sunday morning when the weather held no promise
of sunshine.

Rain and cold weather, but the fastball friendships from the past
summers were quickly renewed, and the season is off to another start.
Great to see the fastball fans back behind the screen, Marg, Betty,
Gerry. Great to see Sylvia and the Cobourg Force again, keeping the
energy level up.

I did notice the the Kitchener Outlaws have moved from Orange and Blue
to the Red White and Blue of Bell Cartage .....i liked those Orange and
Blue unis....but these new duds on Bob Hall's crew do look good.....

The Waterdown Hammer did a great job, they were only defeated by the
rain. Quyon Que, with a short bench made their first trip to SW
Ontario. We will see them soon at the Legends in Kitchener.

This weekend, if you are looking for a few ball games, head to
Woodstock and check out the annual Woodstock Victoria Day tournament.

Games start at 9am on Saturday and every two hours...10 am on
Sunday...(so early choir practice if you want to get to the park on
time) and championships on Monday beginning at 8;30 with final game
scheduled for 4:30 just in time for a nice drive back home to Waterloo....

Teams entered include some TriCounty league teams, Burgessvie Bulls,
Woodstock Kelsey's, Innerkip Expos, Harwood Corners. The Kitchener
Fastball League sends both the Selects and the Predators, out of Grey
Bruce, Saugeen Shores Smoke and the Owen Sound VW Juniors, a couple from
St Thomas and District Men's Fastball League, the Springfield Brewers,
and Glanworth Gators, the South Perth sends the Hickson Reds and the
Shakespeare Falcons, while out of the Erie Fastball League the
Fisherville A's and the Oshwegan Redmen.

Look at that lineup, 14 teams, from 6 leagues, from the shore of Lake
Erie, up to Georgian Bay and from Lake Huron to Kitchener, The state
of fastpitch softball is healthy and vibrant, (despite the headlines
in the Wateroo Region Record..)

There is a top quality fastball tournament every weekend this summer in
that Lake Erie to Georgian Bay geography, and there is 6 times those 6
leagues mentioned playing fastpitch every night of the week somewhere
nearby....Fastpitch is alive and well.....look up for the park lights
and drive into the park....

End of this weeks Homily

Updated NCAA softball scoring rules are available...I have several
printed and ready for those who are interested......I will have a
number printed for the Legends...so if you wish one, let me know.

And speaking of the Legends..I am putting together the scorers and
announcers schedule soon.....please respond and let me know if you can
do a game or two, what evening or day you CANNOT make it...this year
the Legends Classic begins on Thursday June 23rd to runs to Sunday
June 16th....and again at Peter Hallman in Kitchener
. Proceeds this
year, and as in previous years, to the Children's Wish Foundation and
other local charities....

Scorers please let me know so schedules can be sent out, verified and
confirmed, and that volunteer passes can be produced before the
tournament, Last minute changes are always subject to error and
confusion.....

Thanks to Clark Hayman, Mary Ann Stroh, Don Barr, John MacTavish,
Colleen Lowes, Cheryl Staats for letting me know already....Hope to
hear from anyone else who wishes to help. If there are enough of you,
I can "work" in the beer tent.

The Hillside Singers Mixed (senior) Choir has a scheduled practice for
Friday evening and a full recital at one of Tim Whitelaws games on
Saturday...(or will it be Sunday?) hmmm...

Games control is in good shape but we could use a couple of scorers and
announcers....

Correction to the date of the New Zealand Double Header in New
Dundee..it is Wednesday evening,that part was correct....June
TWENTY-SECOND
beginning with the "Village Catering" beef bar b cue at
6pm...tickets $5 at the gate of Doug Fischer Memorial Park in New
Dundee...

Fastpitch Radio is broadcasting from New Dundee. But come out and get
to see these great ball clubs.....

Happy Birthday this week, to one of the hardest working guys in
fastball....Blair Setford...even quick to help a guy out at the beer
tent in Millgrove last weekend.Happy Birthday Blair and thanks for the
Looney.

And just in case you didn't know.....Brad and Emily Thomson were married
a few weeks ago....
you can give them your best wishes at the Legends
when the KW Cubs suit up against the New Zealand Black Sox opening
night..Thursday...23rd of June..

And on another note....I was talking to Bob McKillop at the KSA meeting
this past week and he told me that he ran into another ISC games
controller in Sarasota Florida a month or so...and over a couple of
beers recalled softball stories from Kitchener, from Texas, from Idaho
and a lot about the "boss" in Lake Hughes California.......so a big
hello to Roy Stout from a couple of your ISC pals. Roy get in touch
with McKillop, he will get you caught up with an old pal.

Short note this week, see you at the Woodstock tourney....It will be
nice weather.....
