North York, ON- Softball Ontario has produced some of the most experienced, disciplined and well-respected Umpires in the world. There is no doubt that Ontario has the top Umpires Program in the country and the best individual Umpires right here in Ontario.  Softball Ontario Umpires continue to represent Softball Ontario and our Program across the country and throughout the world.

Softball Ontario Umpires have come to be the best because they have the support and dedication from fellow hard-working Umpires who continually strive to make things better for Umpires in Ontario.  The Softball Ontario Umpires Program currently boasts over eighty (80) volunteers including eight (8) members that make up the Fast Pitch and Slo-Pitch Umpire Committees.

To Highlight Our Responsibilities to the Umpires of Ontario:
•    Deliver the Softball Canada Umpires Certification Program
•    Train Softball Ontario Umpire Instructor/Evaluators to deliver Softball Canada's Umpires Program
•    Appoint Umpires to Softball Ontario Member Association Qualifiers, Provincials, Grand Championships, Super Series and Elimination tournaments
•    Appoint Umpires to Softball Canada Canadian Championships to represent Softball Ontario
•    Develop Umpire Program and Policies with the best interest of Softball Ontario Umpires

The Softball Ontario Umpire Program has evolved to meet the needs of Softball Umpires in Ontario by introducing a graduated fee system that appeals to all levels of umpires.  We continue to offer registration to the young Junior Umpire and seasoned veterans alike.  The creation of the "Fast Pitch Only Local Umpire" category gives an opportunity for new house league Umpires to receive a discount on their registration fees and provide all officials with insurance for their local community umpiring needs.

Remember if you were registered for the 2010 season, your insurance coverage expired on April 1, 2011.  Make sure you are covered for the 2011 season by having your most important piece of equipment: proper Umpire Insurance from Softball Ontario.

If you are wondering "Where exactly does my money go?" Check out the breakdown below which outlines the services each Umpire contributes to:

Regular Umpire:

$16.00 - Softball Canada Affiliation
$11.14 - HST - Taxes
$6.72 - Insurance - Liability and Accident Insurance
$20.29 - Direct Program Expenses - Umpire Packages; Printing, Postage, Rule Books (1/2 actual cost-total cost spread over two years, i.e. life of book)
$5.28 - Umpire Meetings/Training - (Umpire Committee Meetings, Canadian Selections Meeting, ZUIC’s meetings and ITC weekend)
$9.38 - Tournament Services - UICs for Evaluations and Scheduling, Umpires for Training
$2.06 - PUIC/DUIC Travel to represent Program at Canadians and SC AGM
$5.88 - Umpires to Canadians* more is spent on Umpires traveling to Canadians - but we use HR Sports to fund the rest
$20.10 - Program Administration Expenses; Program Staffing - including: Umpire Registration Program, Umpire Meetings; Umpire Clinics; ITC Training, Umpires to Provincials; Umpires to Canadians

Umpire Registration: if you are looking to Register with Softball Ontario, you will have the following options:
* In the event of a Canada Post strike, Softball Ontario has the following procedures in place:

•    Softball Ontario will receive Umpire Registration by fax at 416-426-7368; or scanned and emailed to either Nancy Huang at nhuang@softballontario.ca or Steph Sutton ssutton@softballontario.ca; or by telephone 416-4267150
Exam Packages:

Softball Ontario Office personnel will issue an exam package via email and will send out a hard copy in the mail.  If an Umpire requires a copy of the Softball Canada Rule book alternate arrangements will be made.

Carding:  if you are looking to submit your Softball Canada National Umpire exam to be marked, you will have the following options:
 
If you are looking to submit your National Umpire Exam, you will have the following options.
•    Softball Ontario will accept the Softball Canada National Umpire exam via by fax at 416-426-7368; or scanned and emailed to either Nancy Huang at nhuang@softballontario.ca or Steph Sutton ssutton@softballontario.ca; or it can be submitted to a Softball Ontario Zone Umpire-in-Chief, Softball Ontario Zone Staff or the Softball Ontario Umpire Committees to be marked.  All Softball Ontario Umpire personnel will submit the necessary paperwork to the Softball Ontario office.  Upon successful completion, a Softball Ontario Umpire card will be issued and mailed and the carding status is posted weekly on the Softball Ontario website.
