 LEGENDARY FRANK COX PUTS ON A PITCHING CLINIC
 
A]  RICK McDONALD MEMORIAL FASTBALL LEAGUE GAME RESULTS
 
                            Two league games were played recently . On Wednesday night in Whitefish , the Whitefish Lake First Nation Falcons escaped the basement of the league standings for the first time this year with 10-5 victory over the Swick Hounds of Garson . Danny Nootchtai(1-1) started and took the victory and was relieved in the 4th frame by Troy Nootchtai (1-3) . Both pitchers combined to give up 5 runs (one unearned) on 8 hits while striking out 3 batters and issuing 2 base on balls . Gary “GNU” Lamothe (0-5) suffered his fifth loss giving up 11 hits while fanning 5 batters and not issuing a single base on balls . Brendon Biderman 3 for 4 (double) led all hitters with league leading top hitter Corey Farmer went 2 for 3 (home run ) in a losing cause for the Hounds
                             On Thursday night in Garson at the Lorne Brady Memorial Park  , the undefeated Sudbury North Stars picked up their 6th victory with a 9-3 win over the Cardinals of Pickerel River . The game was close until the North Stars broke out with 5 runs in the sixth inning to win going away . John Ainslie (6-0) picked up his 6th mound victory giving up 6 hits , striking out 5 batters and issuing 4 base on balls . New comer Chris Venvelkenburg (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season going the distance in giving up 12 hits , fanning out 7 batters while issuing one base on balls . Jesse St Cyr led all batters going 3 for 4 while Earl Contin hit 1 for 3 in a losing cause .
                           League play resumes on Wednesday night in Whitefish Lake when the  Sudbury North Stars take on the Pickerel River Cardinals at 7 PM followed by the Swick Hounds facing the Whitefish Lake Falcons at 9 PM under the lights .
 
B] RICK McDonalds MEMORIAL FASTBALL LEAGUE’S 11TH ANNUAL TOURNAMENT
 
 
                                   Mother Nature was not very cooperative this past weekend for the tournament . We got underway in a drizzle on the first day Saturday and following the first two round robin games we had a two hour rain delay before we could continuer . The last four games got underway but it was chilly . Sunday was much better and when came the championship final the big guy Rick up there shined upon us as the bright warm son came out .
 
A) Round robin game results all played on Saturday
 
     1.  Sudbury North Stars defeat the Pickerel River Cardinals 6-0  2. Tri Town Combat Chill edge the Swick Hounds of Garson 2-13. River Dawgs crush the Cardinals  14-3  4. Tri Town edges the Rez Rydersz 3-2  5. River Dawgs defeat the North Stars 5-2  and finally 6. The Rez Rydersz defeat the Swick Hounds 6-1

B) Championship round
 
         Consolation final      The Swick Hounds defeat the Pickerel River Cardinals   5-3
 
        Championship semi finals :  Semi final I    The North Shore River Dawgs edge their rivals the Sagamok Rez Rydersz 7-6 to advance to the championship final   . Semi final II   The Tri Town Combat Chill defeat the Sudbury North Stars 5-2
 
        Championship final                           IT’S A PITCHING CLINIC /IT’S A WALK OFF HOME RUN
 
                                                                The two top teams from the round robin met in a classic encounter . It was young Darren Zack Jr famed son of renowned pitcher Daren Zack Sr who was facing veteran and former team Canada pitcher Frank Cox . The enthusiastic crowd were not disappointed . Cox and his crew took a 4-1 lead after six frames . The young bucks from the Rydersz were not to be denied as they scored  three big runs in the top of the seventh and now led 5-4 . In the bottom of the seventh the dramatics continued as the first batter Mike Ourhar hit a solo shot to left field and tied the game . The next batter Paul Look flew out . Now came Eric Ace left fielder who hit a home run deep to center field to win the ball game . It was Eric’s second home run having hit a two run blast in the first frame . The  members of the championship team are : Walter Tobobundung ,Triston Brown , Mike Loach , Mike Ourchar , Paul Look , Pat Plante , Eric Ace , Ryan Leonard , Brady Loach , Frank Cox and Kevin Blackburn . They were managed by  Derek Pinkerton .
 
Game Championship MVP  Eric Ace Tri Town    2 for 4   ( 2 run homer and walk off game winning home run )
           Tournament MVP      Fran Cox the veteran of Tri Town who put on a clinic  18 innings pitched , 39 strike outs gave up but 9 hits  and 2 earned runs quite a feat !
