Nemish adds three new recruits to the Lords lineup
OSHAWA, Ont. – Durham College women’s fastball head coach Jim Nemish is proud to announce that three new recruits have been added to the lineup for the 2011 season. Joining Durham next season will be Brittany Bell (New Hamburg, Ont.), Jenna Dupuis (Whitby, Ont.) and Kayla Worotniak (Lloydminister, Alta.).

Coming off a banner year in 2010 which saw the Lords win their 15th Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) title and finishing third at the nationals in Saskatchewan, the Lords have high hopes heading into 2011.

BRITTANY BELL
Bell is a versatile player can play first, shortstop and catcher. Playing with Mississauga in 2010, she was named first base MVP at nationals while her team finished third at provincials. She added a lot of power to the line-up hitting eight out of the park home runs.

In 2009 with the Kitchener Klassics, she placed fourth at nationals and won the provincial titles. She also attended the Ontario Summer Games in 2008.

“Brittany is an outstanding fastball player with a number of accomplishments at the national and provincial level,” said Nemish. “She is an elite player at the midget level and will be attending National Identification tryouts this summer for Softball Canada. When first talking with Brittany and her parents when they toured the school this past winter, they were looking for a school that would be comfortable at. After meeting the players, staff and administration at Durham, they knew this was the right place.”

“We are excited to have a player of Brittany’s level in our program and look for her to add experience confidence and stability to the middle of our line up with her offense, defence and overall skill level.

JENNA DUPUIS
Dupuis played catcher with the Ajax Raiders and were playoff champions. Playing for the Whitby Eagles in 2009, her team also won the playoffs and finished second at the provincial championship.

“Jenna is young and has all the tools and skills to be our starting catcher of the future,” said Nemish. “She has good skills behind the plate as well as offensive abilities at the plate. Jenna is versatile and can play some corner infield positions and outfield. We look forward to having Jenna in our program to add depth and strength to our team success.”

With veteran Shannon Ferguson set to graduate in 2011, Nemish will be looking for the freshman to learn on the fly in 2011.

“Jenna will add depth to this position behind veteran starter and captain Shannon Ferguson. Without a real backup catcher the past two seasons, Ferguson has carried the bulk of the time behind the plate. Jenna will give us the needed support and back up to learn and ease the load off Ferguson.”

KAYLA WOROTNIAK
Joining the Lords from out west is Worotniak who started at first base for the Irma Tigers in 2011 and Edmonton Rivercity Hornets in 2010. She will be joining Janna Hagan (Sherwood Park, Alta.) in the lineup, who has flourished in her first two seasons with the Lords.

“Kayla is a young player with a lot of upside and skill level,” said Nemish. “She has a lot of enthusiasm and comes with a of positive hard working attitude. She is a player that we feel will add depth and bench strength to our line up with a skill level for our coaching staff to work with and develop with expectations to become a building block to the future continued success of our program. We look forward to having Kayla in our program.”

The Lords are set to host the 2011 OCAA championship which is scheduled to take place from October 21-22 and travel to Windsor for the 2011 Canadian Intercollegiate Women's Fastpitch National Championship.
