Port Elgin Blue Devils 12 Owen Sound Crunch 6

Blue Devils left fielder Matt Willis had a grand slam in the 6th inning to
propel the Blue Devils to the victory.

Second Baseman Darryl MacKinnon and Designated Player Ryan Dudgeon both
homered in the 7th to seal the win.

The Crunch escaped an early jam in the first when Mike Majury caught a hard
hit ball in center field for the second out of the inning and nailed
MacKinnon at the plate with the throw to keep the game scoreless in the
early going.

The Blue Devils flashed the leather in the bottom of the first when
rightfielder Blake Underwood made a running catch on a Ken Kivell liner.

Underwood opened the scoring in the second. He got on board via an error and
scored on a Matt Turcotte double to the fence in left center.

Turcotte was driven in by MacKinnon as the Blue Devils grabbed a 2-0 lead.

The Crunch tied the affair in the bottom of the third. Right fielder Chris
Barfoot scored on a wild pitch and second baseman Troy Barfoot plated the
tying run with an r.b.i, single.

Port Elgin restored their two run lead in the top of the fourth. Brian Lantz
was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on wild pitches and scored on another
Turcotte r.b.i., this time a long sacrifice fly.

Then, after MacKinnon doubled, Ryan Whitney drove him in to give the Devils
a 4-2 advantage.

The Crunch came close to tying the affair in the bottom of the inning, but
Port Elgin reliever Rob Fawcett struck out Devon Edwards of the Crunch with
the bases loaded.

Port Elgin blew the game open in the 6th with 5 runs including the grand
slam by Willis.

In the bottom of the inning, the Crunch avoided the " mercy rule " on a 3
run homer by Bill Ottewell.

However, in the top of the 7th, MacKinnon and Dudgeon cracked homers to give
the Blue Devils a 12-6 victory.

Darryl Banks started for Port Elgin. He went 3 & 2/3rd and gave up 4 hits.
Fawcett pitched the remainder of the game for the Blue Devils.

Garrett Baker went all the way for the Crunch, giving up 15 hits including
the 3 home runs to the hard hitting Blue Devils. Baker struck out 3 in the
game.

Tonight, Port Elgin will host the Wiarton Tom Norris Busmen at Lakeview Park
at 8:30.

Tomorrow, the Crunch are back in action when they visit Holstein to meet the
Clifford Lumber Kings.
