Black Sox win the 8th Legends of Fastball Classic

The New Zealand Black Sox scored two in the bottom of the3rd inning of
the championship game on Sunday afternoon. Ben Enoka led off with a
single with one out, Bartorillo moves him to 2nd on a ground out, 3rd to
1st, two away.

Rhys Casely RBI single to score Enoka, then steals 2nd and scores on
Wayne Laulu's double. Thomas Makea flies out to right.

Jarvis Travelers lead off the 4th with a Nick Shailes homer beyond deep
deep deep centre. Ian Fehrman singles and steals 2nd...Chad Staats
strikes out, bringing Pat Graham to the plate...Jarvis down by one
run...Jeremy Manley on the rubber.

Graham hits a double deep to centre left, and Fehrman rounds 3rd, and
heads for home, a run will tie the game, a head first slide, and a bump
and a bash and a tag, too late, and safe at home, Craig Wallace the
Black Sox catcher jumps up, looking to Graham at second, steps on
Fehrman on the ground at the plate...on deck batter Greg Courneyea
pokes Wallace with the Easton, a gentle reminder that he made an
error, and the fun begins....first a shove back by Manley, then the
umpires and coaches arrive and then the infielders and then the benches
and the shouting...

The game settles back down...Manley is replaced by Peneje Iosefo on the
rubber......and Courneyea steps back into the box....

Iosefo throws one outside to the Jarvis catcher, some of the tension
escapes with that pitch, then one over the plate..a fly ball to
right...2 out...Black Sox 2, Jarvis 2, Graham at 2nd......and Jason
Sanford hits a 2 bagger to score Graham...Will Fehrman flies out to
left..

Jarvis 3...New Zealand 2...end of 4...

In the top half of the 5th. Rhys Casely homers, scoring Tyron Bartorilo
who doubled, with 2 away.

The rain washed out Thursday night..4 of the games were cancelled, only
the 6pm junior game got played.

Friday looked a little grim early in the day, but rain held off, games
started and finished.

Saturday looked more promising, and Barry Musselman was able to put
away all of the scenarios that he had worked through,

"If this was rained out...we can do that"

"No, can't do that, they would have to play at the same time"

"Sue, where can we get a ball diamond for 3 games?"

"Maybe we should go to 5 innings and catch up?"

"Tim (Whitelaw) can we get a couple more umpires if this game is moved
to another park?"

"Do we have game balls, scorekeepers, ball chasers?"

Tom Clancy, Cheryl Staats and Heather Terwood jumped in to help at Budd
park, it all worked out.

At ten pm, the Black Sox played Owen Sound in the "Opening Game" two
days after it was scheduled and the Legends was back on track...what a team

Sunday morning, bright and clear, Bill Gallager's staff had the
diamonds groomed and lined, Duncan had lots of food, Jim had lots of
beer, the umps were shining their shoes, the games controllers were
getting the diamonds organized, Anne's Army of Children's Wish
Volunteers were at the front gate all smiles and welcomes ready. Ray
had the carts lined up ready to go to work. Muss was thinking thru the
tie breakers, and the what happens if, and the "goesintos". There was
sunshine promised for the day and the teams were ready for the
championship round.
