Garson - First Grand Slam of Season

SID NEBENIONQUIT HITS FIRST GRAND SLAM OF THE SEASON
 
                                                          The Whitefish Lake Falcons have jumped back into third place with a key 11-7 victory over their rivals the Pickerel River Cardinals . Troy Nootchtai (2-4) went the distance for his 2nd win of the season giving up 9 hits (none in the first three frames ) ,struck out two batters and only issued one base on balls . Jonathan Contin (4-3) started , was tagged with his third loss of the season and gave way to Alex Ashawasagai (0-0) in the third frame .Both pitchers combined to give up 10 hits ,strike out 7 batters while issuing but one single base on balls . Kirk Petagtegoose (home run ) and Josh Shawanda led the hitting parade for the Falcons both going 2 for 3 at the plate with teammate Sid Nebenionquit hitting 2 for 4 including a grand slam in the third , the first this year by a pl;ayer   while Jim Pawis hit 2 for 3 in losing cause for the Cardinals .
                                                           The power house Sudbury North Stars ran their undefeated record to 9-0 and could easily in the early part of the second half clinch first place and the Commissioner’s Cup . It was a close contest after four innings with  the North Stars holding on to a slim 3-2 lead but as its been the habit of late , the veteran North Stars exploded for 5 runs in the 5th and held on for their 9th win of the season . John Ainslie (8-0) picked up his 8th mound victory giving up 9 hits , striking out 6 batters while issuing but one single base on balls . Al Guenette (0-1) in only his first mound appearance suffered the loss  with Bruce MacDonald (1-0) relieved him in the third . Both pitchers combine to give uip 10 hits , fan 2 batters while issuing three base on balls . Brothers Marc and Mike Cain led all North Star hitters both going 2 for 3 at the dish while both Bruce MacDonald and Eric Legendre hit 2 for 3 in a losing cause for the Swick Hounds of Garson .
League play resumes with two doubleheaders this week .First of all on Wednesday night in Whitefish , Pickerel River Cardinals tangle with the Sudbury North Stars at 7 PM and that will be folllowed with nightcap under the lights at 9PM when the Swick Hounds of Garson face the hosts Whitefish Lake First Nation Falcons . On Thursday evening at the Lorne Brady Park in Garson , the Sudbury North Stars take on the Whitefish Lake Falcons at 7 PM followed by a battle between the Swick Hounds of Garson and the Pickerel River Cardinals .
 
Some of our players and teams will be participating this coming weekend in the 37th annual Huntsville Men’s Fastball Tournament  which is now considered the largest and longest running in North America . During the tournament you most likely will see the likes of  legendary Darren “Z-man” Zack  , Mike Crawford , Frank Cox and others . You must come out and spend the weekend in Huntsville and see some most excellent fastball . As I’ve done for the last three years   , I’ll be covering it for Al’s Fastball –I will have the full stories including some memorable photos .
