Softball Canada Announces 2011 Summer Roster

(Surrey, BC) Softball Canada is pleased to announce the list of players who have been named to the Senior Women's National Team for the 2011 Scotiabank Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship and US World Cup of Softball VI. The 18-player roster includes a few returning veterans, as well as many new faces.

The Scotiabank Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship will take place from July 9-17 in Surrey, BC, with Canada playing a double round-robin against Australia, Japan, the United States and Venezuela, with all five teams advancing to the playoff round.

The US World Cup of Softball will be played July 21-15 in Oklahoma City. Canada will send a 17-player roster to the event.

The athletes who will represent Canada at the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship in Surrey, BC from July 9-17 are:

Danielle Lawrie (Langley, BC) and Jennifer Salling (Port Coquitlam, BC) will not participate in the Canadian Open or the US World Cup due to their National Pro Fastpitch League obligations, but will join the Canadian team for the Pan American Games this Fall.

In addition to these 18 players, Softball Canada will also have seven players from the Junior Women's National Team on their 25-player Canadian Open roster that may be called up on occasion during the Canadian Open.
