The 6th Annual Boys of Summer Open concluded last weekend as County
Materials was crowned champions for the 4th straight year. This year they
rose to the top of one of the strongest and deepest fields assembled in a
season tournament. We'd like to thank each and every sponsor for bringing
your outstanding teams to Denmark, WI, USA for the event. The weekend saw
many tight games between ISC heavyweights as well as some stunning upsets
along the way. It definitely had a hint of the World Tournament feel to
it.
First, I'd like to thank Darren Derricks, owner of the Circle Tap team and
business for again putting on an incredible show. I heard many fans say
"this is what it's all about."
Thanks to Hank DeWild for handling all of the stats and loading them on
the computers. Hank does a terrific job and should be commended. Thanks
to Karen LeBlanc for handling each and every game at CT doing the
scoreboard, announcing and the book. Her countless hours are much
appreciated. Thanks to Herbie Bonlander and Justin Loritz for handling
the lower diamond and taking care of the diamond. Thanks to the Knights
of Columbus for taking care of the Upper diamond in Denmark, concessions,
scorekeeping etc.
Thanks to Mark Loritz and Bill Miller for the outstanding groundskeeping
at the Circle Tap diamond. Thanks to Dave LeBlanc, WI Commissioner, for
taking care of all the umpires. Thanks to Paul Lancelle for again
creating the wonderful bracketboards. Thanks to all the CT waitstaff and
cooks who worked countless hours to keep a cold one in your hand and your
stomach full as well as Wayne Krueger for handling the gate at information
booth at CT.
Thank you to the tremendous amount of fans, many of which traveled great
distances to take in the event. Every ballplayer loves to play in front
of a crowd. Thanks to the local media WLUK Green Bay for doing a story on
the local news as well as the Green Bay Press-Gazette for posting scores
each day.
Another year has come and gone and I think there is no question that this
has been the best one yet. We'll continue to try and improve each time
out and keep an outstanding product on the field for fans to enjoy. I've
heard loads of positive remarks from several people who attended the
tournament. Please feel free to contact me to voice your opinion on what
you liked or maybe disliked about the event. We will strive to make it a
positive event for all.
