RICK McDONALD MEMORIAL FASTBALL LEAGUE
Yours truly has a very busy next few weeks . Up coming first is the start of the league 2011 playoffs (semi final edition) which gets underway this coming Wednesday August the 10th in Whitefish Lake where the defending league champions and this year’s number one seed take on the host and 4th seeded Whitefish Lake First Nation Falcons at 7 PM (series “Aâ€Â) .That will be followed by the nightcap under the lights at 9 P.M. when the 3rd seeded Swick Hounds of Garson tangle with the 2nd seeded Pickerel River Cardinals (series “Bâ€Â) .Both series are best of five affairs and continue on Thursday night at 7 PM in Garson at the Lorne Brady Memorial Park with game two of series “Aâ€Â .Seriesâ€Â Bâ€Â will only resume on Monday night in Azilda .
On the weekend of August the 19th to the 21st it’s the 6th Annual Brad Rienguette “Shamou Shoot Out “ Northern Ontario Ladies and Men’s Fastball Championship . This year if the right numbers are there will see a Ladies ,Masters and Men’s Open Division . All games will be played at the Rick McDonald Sports Complex in Azilda . There will be a special ceremony commemorating Brad on Friday plus a food concession booth as well as the sale of raffle tickets and 50/50 tickets (part of the proceeds from these sales will go towards the cancer society –specifically liver/cancer in memory of the Sham ). Larry Pedersen and myself will be co convening the tournament .
On the weekend of of September the 9th to the 11th , it’s the 4th Annual Parry Island Hawks Men\’s Fastball Championship . For the first time in the tournament there will be a masters division . In the men’s open prize money will be of $2000 for first place and $1000 for the runners up . There will also be food concession booths as well as sales of 50/50 draws. Roger Legendre is the head convener and chairperson for this tournament .
