Mallards Coach Bell, Goaltender Fogal
to Play in ISC World Tournament

MOLINE, Ill. (August 10, 2011) – The Quad City Mallards of the “AA” Central Hockey League today announced that Mallards coach and general manager David Bell and goaltender Brad Fogal will play in next week’s International Softball Congress Men’s Fastball World Tournament in Moline.

Bell, an outfielder, will play for the Wyevale (Ontario) Tribe while Fogal, a catcher and infielder, will take the field for the Alviston (Ontario) Indians.

“Spending time at the diamond is going to be a great way for me to meet and hang out with some of the sports fans in the Quad Cities area,” said Bell, who is in the process of relocating to the Quad Cities.  “I’m super excited about getting settled and putting down some roots while we build something special with the community.”

Wyevale and Alviston will play their first games Sunday at noon.  Wyevale will take on Dolan & Murphy of Aurora, Illinois, while Alviston will meet Seattle’s Cal State Builders.  All ISC World Tournament games will be played at the Green Valley Sports Complex in Moline.

Bell, 34, is approaching his first season at the Mallards’ helm.  The Wiarton, Ontario, native spent the last seven years as an assistant coach in the professional and junior ranks.  He served as an assistant with the Ontario Hockey League’s Barrie Colts for the last two seasons.  Before stepping behind the bench, Bell, a defenseman, enjoyed a seven-year professional playing career during which he scored 29 goals, produced 114 points and accumulated 1,188 penalty minutes while skating in 465 games for nine teams in the ECHL, AHL, United Hockey League, and West Coast Hockey League.

Fogal, 25, is closing in on the start of his rookie season.  The Sharon, Ontario, native is fresh off a standout four-year career at Adrian College, during which he set the Division III record for most career wins.  As a senior, Fogal helped Adrian to a fourth straight Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association title, a second consecutive NCAA Frozen Four appearance and a berth in the Division III national title game.
