PLAYOFF EDITION (BEST OF 5 SEMI FINALS)

THE YOUNG BUCKS FROM WHITEFISH ARE IN THE DRIVER’S SEAT

There were two exciting games played Monday night in Azailda at the Rick McDonald Memorial Park .In the opener , the Falcons of Whitefish Lake First Nation followed up their upset win over the league defending champions Sudbury North Stars last Thursday with another offensive and stunning win last night . The young Falcons . proved they were for real as they pounded their veteran opponents with 15 hits taking an early 8-0 lead after two innings . Even with the North Stars coming up with 5 runs in the 4th frame , the Falcons held for a  9-6 most important victory . They now lead the best of 5 , two games to one and could eliminate the defending champions come Wednesday night in Whitefish Lake .Troy Nootchtai (2-1)  started for the Falcons in picking up his second strait victory giving was to Andy Nootchtai (0-0) who took over in the fourth frame with one out .Both pitchers combined to give up 8  hits , strike out 4 batters and issue 4 batters . John Ainslie (1-1) started for the North Stars but gave up for Brad Matheson (0-1) in the second inning with two outs .Both pitchers combined to give up 15 hits , fan 5 batters and issue 2 base on balls .Misadice Rice and Sid Nebenionquit les the hitting parade for the Falcons both going 3 for 5 at the dish while John Ainslie hit 3 for 4 (two run homer ) in a losing cause for the North Stars .
In the nightcap the Swick Hounds of Garson came up with an important come from behind victory over the Pickerel River Cardinals . It was a see-saw battle throughout as both teams exchanged hits and runs as well as committing the odd fielding error . When it came down to the crunch , the Hounds picked up the winning run in the bottom of the seventh when lead off hitter Corey Farmer (also this year’s top hitter recipient) led off with a double which brought up relief pitcher Gary Lamothe who promptly hit flub single over the third baseman’s head and Farmer raced home to beat out the throw from left field . The Hounds won 7-6 to tie their best of  5 series at one game a piece . Al Guenette (0-0) started for Hounds and gave way to veteran Gary Lamothe (1-1) in the 5th inning with nobody out and picked up the win in relief . Both pitchers combined to give up 11 hits , strike out 5 batters  and issue two base on balls . Jonathan Contin (1-0) started for the Cardinals before Chris Vanvelkenburg (0-1`) came in relief to start the 5th frame .Vanvelkenburg was tagged with the loss in relief .. Both pitchers combined to give up 12 hits , fan 11 batters and issue but one single base on balls . Corey Farmer led the offensive charge for the Hounds going 3 for 4 (all doubles and scoring the winning run) with teammate Todd Parsons going a perfect 3 for 3 (double) while Pat Brennan Jr hit 2 for 4 (both doubles) in a losing cause for the Cardinals .
Both series are scheduled at the moment to resume tomorrow night Wednesday August the 17th in Whitefish Lake where the Whitefish Falcons (lead best of five series 2-1) will take on the North Stars at 7 PM which will be followed by Hounds at Cardinals at 9 PM with this series tied 1-1 . RICK McDONALD MEMORIAL FASTBALL LEAGUE

Following some good discussion and decisions by both teams (Swick Hounds of Garson and the Pickerel River Cardinals) , it has been decided that game 3 of their semi final series will go ahead on Wednesday night at 9 P.M. in Whitefish Lake . They will not play game four on Thursday in Garson but instead delay it till Monday night August 21st in Azilda at 9 PM ..There is no change in the other series between the North Stars and the Falcons who will play game 4 Wednesday evening at 7 PM in Whitefish and then continue if necessary with the 5th and deciding game on Thursday night at 7PM in Garson . Should both games be washed out by rain on Wednesday then the Swick Hounds and the Falcons would play their third game on Thursday 9 PM in Garson . The other change we may see is the following : if teams ask to delay any up coming games for this Monday August the 22nd in Azilda because of this weekend’s tournament we would accommodate them and not resume the semis till Wednesday August the 24th in Whitefish Lake . I hope this is clear and not to confusing for all parties comcerned .You can now reach me on facebokk on a regular basis ..

Yours in fastball ,
