RICK McDONALD MEMORIAL FASTBALL LEAGUE
 
                                                                 THE CARDINALS FLY BY THE SWICK HOUNDS
 
                                 The Swick Hounds of Garson took on the Pickerel River Cardinals tonight in the fourth game of their best of five series . It was a close intense game throughout and was not decided until the seventh inning . The Cardinals scored their first run in the second frame on a fielding error and a single and then once more repeated a similar scenario in the 5th to take a 2-0 lead . The Swick Hounds feeling the pressure score two in the sixth on a couple of hits and  a fielding error to tie the game at 2 with the seventh inning coming up . In the top of the seventh the top of the line up is up for the Cardinals . The first two batter go out on ground outs but the next two get on with a single and an infield error . With first base open and after strong discussion , the Swick Hounds decide to pitch to clutch hitter Pat Brennan who com,comes through with a double to score that important third and leading run . The next batter goes out on a ground out . In the bottom of the seventh , the first batter for the Hounds goes out on a grounder ,followed by a strike out , the third batter reaches first base on a fielding error before the next batter strikes out to end the game and the series . Jonathan Contin (2-0) goes the distance for the Cardinals picking up his second victory of the playoffs in giving up but five hits striking out 6  batters and not issuing a single base on balls . Al Guenette (0-2) also goes all the way for the Hounds in giving up 11 hits , striking out 5 batters and also not issuing a single base on balls .. Alex Ashawasagai leads the way for Pickerel going 3 for 4 at the plate with teammates Jonathan Contin and Pat Brennan (double) both  hitting 2 for 4 . The league’s top hitter Corey Farmer (trophy presented to him prior to the start of the game) goes 2 for 3 (double) in a losing cause for the Hounds . The Pickerel River Cardinals will now face the defending league cham[pions , the Sudbury North Stars in a best of five series starting Wednesday night August 24th in Whitefish Lake starting at 9 PM . Game two will either go Thursday night August 25th in Garson at the Lorne Brady Memorial Park for 9PM or next Monday August the 29th in Azilda for 9PM at the Rick McDonald Memorial Park . Should it rain as the forecast is predicting , the finals won’t start till Thursday evening in Garson . The team should start thinking right now of their player selections to the All Star game which is tentatively scheduled for Saturday September the 17th in Azilda at the Rick McDonald Memorial Park ..
