The InterCounty Fastball League is hosting their league championship
tournament this weekend in Ponsonby...Ponsonby gets two thumbs up....
One for the two diamonds and one for the good food..Ponsonby is located
to the west of Wellington Road #7..north of Guelph, and south of
Elora, north of Wellington Rd 51 and south of Wellington Rd 21..look for
the green and white Ponsonby Recreation sign....

Ponsonby gets two thumbs up from the Tournament Rating Committee*....one
for the close proximity of the diamonds....close enough that you can
keep on top of two games at once, and if you have to jump off one
band-wagon and onto another, you can get to the other diamond
quickly...and on the way you pass the other "thumbs-up" ....the
concession and beer tent. You will always find good food, Burger and
Back Bacon and Cold Beer...

One game on Thursday night...Dundalk (6 - 17 - 1) vs Grand Valley, (4 -
20)

Friday night...4 games...Alma (15 - 9) vs Rockway (11- 13)....Puslinch
(14 - 10) vs Arthur (11 - 13) ....Orangeville (20 - 4) vs Winner Game
1..|(that looks like a mismatch or a big suprise), and Ponsonby (18 -
5 - 1) vs Maryhill (8 -16)

Games continue all day Saturday and Championship Sunday....

*Tournament Rating Committee, Don Barr, Earl Stroh, and John MacTavish

If you are heading to Owen Sound for the Canadians and are driving up
Hwy 6, Ponsonby is only a short detour to the west...you could spend
part of the weekend at the InterCounty Championships and Sunday at the
Canadians...

I just got a note from Jamie Simpson, no rosters as yet for the
Canadians which start this weekend in Owen Sound.

Opening Sunday, Defending Canadian champs the Hallman Twins of Kitchener
have drawn the Quyon Flyers of the Ottawa Fastball League, representing
Quebec. That game is at 11 am....Port Elgin plays Vancouver at 1pm.
Hallman Twins back again at 3pm to meet St John's NL.
Following the opening ceremonies, PEI plays the Owen Sound Selects,
(Ontario Champs) at 6:30. Opening day concludes with Vancouver playing
their second game, this time against Fredericton NB.

Monday, the fastball day begins at 10 am...PEI vs St John's, then at
noon, Port Elgin vs Fredericton, 2pm Quyon Que vs Vancouver, 4pm St
John's vs Port Elgin. Monday evening, two games, 6:30 PEI vs Quebec and
a big game for Ontario fastpitch fans, the Owen Sound Selects vs
Kitchener Hallman Twins at 8:30....

I don't know how many times the Owen Sound Selects/Tiremen/ have played
the Kitchener/Waterloo Twins/CHYMrs/ over the past 30 or 40 years but
this one could be as good as anyone of those games in the past...

Tuesday...noon...Vancouver vs Owen Sound, 2pm PEI vs Fredericton, 4pm St
John's vs Quebec, 6:30 Hallman Twins vs Port Elgin Blue Devils, and the
home town Selects vs Fredericton....8:30

Wednesday...10 am...Fredericton vs Owen Sound,.....noon, PEI vs
Vancouver, ....2pm St john's vs Owen Sound....4pm Kitchener Twins vs
Fredericton, and in the evening, 6:30 Port Elgin vs Owen
Sound....(battle of Grey-Bruce ) Being a native Bruce County Boy, born
and raised in Mildmay, graduate of SHHS in Walkerton, G12NF
diploma....I'm cheering for the Blue Devils...That game will be
followed by Vancouver vs St John's

Thursday wraps up the round robin....10 am Kitchener Vs PEI,.... noon,
St John's vs Fredericton........ at2pm Port Elgin, off a big win I
hope, will play Quebec and at 4pm.....Kitchener Twins vs
Vancouver....Two games in the evening...6:30 PEI vs PE...(the Blue
Devils 2nd of the day), and 8:30 to wrap up the preliminary round...Owen
Sound Selects vs Quebec...

Friday is for Tie Breakers.....Saturday and Sunday for championship play....

There are some great teams and players in this tournament....you don't
want to miss many games...

The Softball Canada web site should carry a lot of pre-tourament
information....

As I mentioned earlier...no rosters as yet...but these 2011 ISC All
World players will be in Owen Sound for the Canadians...

Don Scott, 2011 winner of the ISC Outstanding Pitcher at the World
Tournament...6 wins, 0 losses, a 1.65 ERA, 34 innings pitched with 52
Ks...along with Hallman Twin teamate Ryan Wolfe who picked up another
ISC outfielder All World selection.

Brad Ezekiel made the ISC outfield all star team. Brad will be with
Newfoundland. Ian Ferhman who was selected for the ISC AW short stop
position will suit up for Newfoundland as well.

Rob Giesbrecht won a position on the 2nd team All World selection, Rob
is with Vancouver.

There are many other great players on the rosters heading to Owen Sound
this coming week.

Another note out of the ISCs...Bob Gillow of the KW Cubs picked up a
selection to the AllWorld team as well...great for Bob..another great
ball player out of the South Perth...there are a lot of them...

DON SCOTT

How about that....Don Scott picks up the ball and goes 6 and 0 to lead
the Travellers to the ISC Championship in Quad Cities... two of those
games against NewYork's NY/Chicago and Andrew Kirkpatrick

Don opened the ISCs with a 5 inning, 3 hit, 0 run win over Duncan
Outlaws. He faced 18 batters and had 6 Ks....Andrew Phibbs had one
inning in relief.

Next up, the Mitchell Mets, and a 14- 0 Traveller's win...and a no
hitter facing 12 hitters and recording 7 strikeouts. The Mets are a
strong team in the league, but Scott has played against them many
times in the South Perth and few teams have the hitting power of Jarvis.

One of the pre tournament favorites going in to Quad Cities was the
Minnesota Angels. Don held them to 2 hits, over the 7 innings allowing
one run, a homer by Gavin Smith in the 4th; Jarvis 4 - 1...and Scott
now 3- 0, allowing 1 run and 5 hits

Fourth game, this one against Alpaugh....and another Jarvis win....8
runs for the Travellers on 7 hits...1 run for Alpaugh on 4 hits.
Folkard had started for the Travellers, went 1 inning, and allowed 1
hit...Scott took over in the 2nd. went 4 innings for the win, allowing
3 hits and 1 run, struck out 6 facing 15 Alpaugh batters.

Game 5, Friday night..up against #2 ranked New York NY/Chicago and
Andrew Kirkpatrick, Jeff Ellsworth, Ryse Casley, Brad Ezekiel, Pat
Shannon, Steve Mullaley, Todd Schultz, Pukash, La Hoz,
etc....etc...Kirkpatrick went 6 innings.....allowed 4 hits, 3 runs, 2
earned, walked one, struck out 10 of the 22 batters he faced.
Scott went 7, allowed 3 hits, 2 earned runs, walked one, and matching
Kirkpatrick he too struck out 10 of the 24 batters he faced...

and now with 5 wins, the Travellers face NY/Chicago for the champioship
game onSaturday evening..and Scott has the ball, against Kirkpatrick again.
Jarvis gets off to a 1 run lead in the first, Nick Shailes scores from
3rd on a wild pitch. In the 4th Ryan Wolfe singles, Brandon Horn
singles, and Pat Graham running for Ryan is at 3rd...Terkelson doubles
and scores Graham and Horn, ...Kirkpatrick is replaced on the rubber by
Newton. Nick Shailes singles to score Terkelson and Ben Enoka.
Travellers up 5 - 0.

NY/Chigaco to bat in the 4th...Casley singles, Shannon safe on a
fielder's choice...but Casley out at 2nd....La Hoz triples to score
Shannon, and Wilson singles to score La Hoz....2 runs on 3 hits...Score
now Travellers 5 - NY/Chicago 2

Nothing in the 5th but in the B6,,,Casley again singles, Shannon
doubles, and with 2 out, Wilson singles for 2 RBIs...Shannon and
Santiago, running for Casley.....bringing NY/Chicago closer, 5 - 4...

In the B7...Mullaley singles, Ezekiel K'd, Pukash K'd, and Ellesworth
grounds out to 3rd...

Don Scott picks up his 6th win.. pitching 7 innings, allowing 8 hits, 4
earned runs, 0 walks, facing 28 batters and striking out 9...

Congratulations Don...great job...
