Quebec comes back to beat Kitchener 5-2

Game 1 of the 2011 Senior Mens Fastpitch Championships featured The Kitchener Hallman Twins vs Softball Quebec.

On the power of two homeruns from Softball Quebec they defeated Kitchener by a score of 5-2.

Darren Zack recorded the win for Quebec going five innings giving up seven hits, two runs and struck out three. Don Scott took the loss for Kitchener going six innings giving up 5 hits , 5 runs and struck out seven.

Kitchener got the scoring started with a Andy Jacskon RBI double in the 2nd innings, Quebec answered in the bottom half with a Steve Savard solo homerun. With the game 2-1 Kitchener in the bottom of the 5th Matthew Lessard crushed a two run homerun over the center field fence giving them a 3-2 lead and they never looked back from that point on adding 2 more runs in the bottom half of the 6th inning.

Quebec improves to 1-0 and plays again tomorrow at 2pm vs British Colombia. With the loss KItchener drops to 0-1 and now plays agian at 3pm today from the team from Newfoundland.

BC DOUBLES UP PORT ELGIN 6-3

Game 2 of the 2011 Senior Mens Fastball Championships featured British Colombia vs The Port Elgin Blue Devils with BC winning by a score of 6-3.

Nick Underhill went the distance giving up 4 hits, 3 runs and striking out 4, while Scott Smith took the loss for the Blue Devils going 5 innings giving up 5 hits, 4 runs and striking out 7.

Trever Johnstone got the game started with a 2 run blast over the right field fence in the 1st inning. Kevin Schellenburg also had 3 hits for BC including a solo blast in the 5th inning. Matt Reinhart added a 2RBI triple for Port Elgin in the loss.

British Colombia moves to 1-0 and their next game is tonight at 8:30pm vs the team from New Brunswick. With the loss the Port Elgin Blue Devils move to 0-1 and are off for the rest of the day an play again tomorrow at 12pm vs the same New Brunswick team.

Newfoundland powers their way to a 7-1 win over Kitchener Twins

Game 3 of the 2011 Senior Mens Fastball Championships featured the Kitchener Twins vs Team Newfoundland with Newfoundland getting the victory by a score of 7-1.

Sean Whitten went the distance for the win giving up 3 hits 1 run and striking out 12 batters. Andrew Phibbs took the loss for the Twins going 6 innings giving up 8 hits 7 runs only 4 earned runs and he struck out 5 batters.

Kitchener got on the board first with a Allan Phibbs solo homerun in the 2nd inning. Then it was all Newfoundland with of course the long ball which has been a story so far today with 10 total going out of the yard so far in 3 games. Stephen Mullaley hit a 2 run homerun in the 3rd, Justin Gill hit a 3 run homerun in the 4th, and Ian Ferhman hit a solo shot in the 5th.

The win moves Newfoundland to 1-0 and they will now play tomorrow at 10am vs PEI. The Kitchener Hallman Twins fall to 0-2 early in the tournament with the loss and will now play tomorrow at 8:30pm vs the host Owen Sound Verge Selects.

Selects squeak out a 7-5 win over PEI

Game 4 of the 2011 Senior Mens Fastpitch Championships featured the team from PEI up against the host Owen Sound Verge Selects with the Selects winning 7-5

Andy Skelton picked up the win for the Selects going 6 innings giving up 6 hits, 4 runs and struck out 11, Frank Cox came in relief in the 7th and gave up a run but struck out 3 batters to get out of the inning. Mitch Hardy took the loss going 1.1 innings giving up 5 hits, 6 runs and struck out 3. Trever Either relieved Hardy going 4.2 giving up 3 hits and 1 run.

Mark Johnson led off the game with a solo homerun in the 1st and added another 2 run homerun in the 5th to do most of the damage for PEI. Mike Grant also hit a solo homerun for PEI in the loss. Ben Wideman and Andrew Scott both hit homeruns for the Selects. Scott had 4 RBIs in the game while Aaron Fraser had 3 hits and a RBI.

Selects improve to 1-0 and play agian tomorrow night at 8:30 when they take on the Kitchener Hallman Twins. With the loss PEI drops to 0-1 and will play tomorrow morning at 10am vs Newfoundland.

BC edges New Brunswick 3-1 to improve to 2-0

Game 5 of he 2011 Senior Mens Canadian Fastball Championships featured New Brunswick versus British Colombia with BC winning a close affair 3-1.

Jeff Farion gave up 3 hits and 0 earned runs while striking out 13 batters in the win. While Brain Newton pitched 6 innings gave up 6 hits and 2 earned runs and struck out 8 in a losing effort.

Kevin Schellenburg led the game off in style with a solo homerun in the 1st for BC. Ken Brawn had a RBI Single to tie things up in the 5th. Kris Waverick led the bottom of the 6th of with a triple which led to a game winning single by Rob Giesbrect for British Colombia.

BC improves to a tournament best 2-0 and now play tomorrow against Quebec at 2pm in a matchup of two undeafeated teams. With the loss New Brunswick drops to 0-1 and will now play the Port Elgin Blue Devils from Ontario tomorrow at noon.

Overall a hitters day at the ballpark with the wind blowing out to right causing the ball to fly today with a total of 15 homeruns in 5 games today, games resume Monday at 10am with PEI versus Newfoundland.
