Cleary cruises as Newfoundland improves to 2-0 with a 4-1 victory over PEI

Game 6 of the 2011 Senior Mens Fastball Championships featured Newfoundland [1-0] vs PEI [0-1] as Newfoundland won 4-1.

Sean Cleary gave up 1 hit and 1 run while striking out 12 PEI batters for the victory. Ward Gosse recorded the loss for PEI giving up 8 hits, 4 runs and striking out 3 batters.

Cleary's lone hit was a solo homerun by Mark Johnson which gives him 3 on the tournament so far. The long ball continued to power the team from Newfoundland with Stephen Mullaley, Jason Hill, and Brad Ezekiel all hitting solo homeruns. Ryan Boland added 2 hits in the winning effort.

Newfoundland improves to 2-0 and will now play the Port Elgin Blue Devils at 4pm today. With the loss PEI drops to 0-2 and will play Softball Quebec at 6:30 tonight.

Port Elgin beats New Brunswick in 8 innings 5-4

Game 7 of the 2011 Senior Mens Fastball Championships featured New Brunswick versus the Port Elgin Blue Devils with the Blue Devils prevailing 5-4 in 8 innings.

Sean Winship started the game for the Blue Devils but was relieved after 5 innings giving up 4 hits, 4 runs and striking out 4 batters for the no decision. Scott Smith was the winner for Port Elgin going 3 innings and only giving up 1 hit and struck out 3 batters. It was a rough start for New Brunswicks Brian Newton giving up 4 runs in the first 2 innings but then went on to retire 15 straight Blue Devils. Final numbers for Newton, he went 7.2 innings gave up 7 hits 5 runs and struck out 8 batters.

Darryl McKinnon came up to the plate in the bottom of the 8th and drove in Blake Underwood for the game winning RBI. Matt Reinhart went 2-4 including a 2 run homerun. Underwood also had a triple and a RBI in the win. For New Brunswick it was a big 5th inning capped off with a Jermey Tracy 2 run homerun over the right field fence.

With the win Port Elgin imporves to 1-1 and will now play Newfoundland at 4:00pm. The loss brings New Brunswick to 0-2 and they do not play agian until tomorrow at 2pm versus PEI.

Zack shines for Quebec as they defeat BC 5-1

Game 8 of the 2011 Senior Mens Fastball Championships feautured Softball Quebec versus British Colombia. Softball Quebec took the game 5-1.

A day after picking up his 1st win of the tournament and being inducted to the hall of fame Darren Zack took the mound agian this afternoon going the distance giving up only 4 hits, 1 run and struck out 4 batters for his 2nd win of the tournament. Nick Underhill took the loss for BC going 4.1 innings giving up 4 hits, 3 runs and striking out 2.

Greg Garrity started off the 1st inning with a RBI single scoring Mathiew Roy. Roy had 3 hits in the game including a solo homerun in the 6th. Jean David Doucet added a pair of hits in the victory. Kris Waverick had the lone RBI for British Colombia.

Quebec remains undeafeated at 2-0 and will now play at 6:30 tonight versus PEI. British Colombia drops to 2-1 and are finished for the day and will play next tomorrow at 12pm vs the host Owen Sound Selects.
