4TH ANNUAL PARRY ISLAND FASTBALL TOURNAMENT
HOST PARRY ISLAND HAWKS WINS 4TH ANNUAL TOURNAMENT

They’ve been the brides lady on two other occasions but this time around it was theirs finally . The Parry Island Hawks behind the brilliant pitching of legend Frank Cox defeated the number one seeded team from the round robin section 4-0 to capture the tournament title . Prior to the game it was explained by tournament chairperson Roger Legendre the meaning of the special banner . On the banner is well displayed a young man by the name of Barry “Hawk” Tobobundung . He’s a well known figure in the community and a hero to many because of his exemplary conduct .Some ten years ago almost to the day of the 911 tragedy Barry was killed in a tragic accident leaving behind a young wife and child . On this day , his dad Less Tobobundung in an emotional fashion (well understood) threw out the first ceremonial pitch . A moment of silence was held for both Barry and the 911 victims . It was then announced that Casey Abitong was the top pitcher from the round robin with a record of 2-0 , 11 strike outs and an ERA of 1,17 . The top hitter was Walter Jr Tobobundung of the Parry Island Hawks I with a 583 average (7 for 12) . Walter also won from the previous day his third strait home run derby going back to 2009 .

In round robin action the North Shore River Dawgs finished undefeated at 3-0 to capture the # 1 seed . Saugeen Rez Men were 2-1 and # 2 seed . The next two opponents were also 2-1 that of Parry Island I who finished # 3 seed followed by their younger counterparts the Parry Island II for # 4 seed . Whitefish at 0-3 went # 5 and Rama Reds also at 0-3 were # 6
In the quarters both Parry Island I and Parry Island II advanced , In semi final action both the River Dawgs and the Hawks I advanced easily as they defeated their opponents 7-0 withy both games being called after five innings because of the 7 run mercy rule . This set up the stage foe a great rematch between the River Dawgs and the Hawks I who had met earlier on Friday in round robin action when the River Dawns won 5-2 .

The championship final was on with pitchers Frank Cox of the Hawks I and Eric “E-man” Abitong g of the River Dawgs from the North Shore . As expected with a very large crowd of fans on hand , they did not disappoint us . In the first inning Cox strikes out the side after his boys had scored the first run of the game in the top half of the game two base hits (one a double) and a base on balls .In the second frame , Abitong gives up a single but gets the next three out while Cox gives up his first of only two hits ion the contest while collecting his fourth and fifth strike out .In the third , Craig Brown continues his assault in the batters box slapping a double to c enter field and then scoring on two costly outfield errors by the River Dawgs .The Hawks are now giving their pitcher a 2-0 lead and then that’s when he goes to work .In the next 17 batters he faces , only three reach base , two on infield errors and one other on a second base hit only that he gives up .Meanwhile his team, mates double up the score with two runs in the sixth in including veteran Matt Tobobundung’s solo shot to right field . Casey Abitong takes over in top of the seventh inning for Eric Abitong . Frank Cox finishes with 4-0 shut out , 2 hitter and 17 strike outs –of the 26 batters he faced only 4 reach base (2 hits , 2 fielding errors ) . On the other side of the ledger Abitong gives up 4 runs ( 2 are unearned) , 6 hits and he fans 3 batters .Top hitter for the game was Craig Brown of the Hawks 4 for 4 (2 doubles) ; top pitcher was of course Frank Cox . The two game most sportsmanlike players were Marty Nashwka of the River Dawgs and Craig Brown of the Hawks . There was no difficult decision for the tournament MVP who received a beautiful plaque replica of the banner Frank Cox going 3-1 in the tournament pitching 26 innings where he gave up but 6 hits , 4 earned runs giving him a brilliant 1,07 ERA and striking out 62 for an average of 15,5 per game or 2,48 per inning . Members of the championship team were : Walter Sr Tobobundung ,Walter Jr Tobobundung , Matt Tobobundung , Frank Cox ,Adam Judge ,Craig Brown , Jayden Tobobundung ,Koly Snache. and Jim Pawis
