Owen Sound native Bob Underwood remains in intensive care at a Hamilton hospital after being struck by a car there early Sunday morning.
The 19-year-old Mohawk College student was crossing Main St. at Hess Village, a popular bar and nightclub area in the Steel City's core.
Underwood was struck by the car at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.
He was rushed to Hamilton General Hospital and Underwood underwent emergency surgery on Monday to remove a piece of his skull to relieve pressure on his brain.
Underwood's vital signs improved after the surgery and doctors were limiting his visitors to allow him to rest undisturbed over the 48 hours after the surgery before they began mapping out his recovery plan.
Hamilton Police Services told the Hamilton Spectator on Sunday that alcohol was not a factor with the driver of the vehicle.
Charges have not been laid and the incident is still under investigation.
Underwood is an Owen Sound minor hockey and minor lacrosse graduate. He played junior-B lacrosse last season with the Owen Sound ProTeam NorthStars and he was also called up with the senior-B Owen Sound Quantum Properties Woodsmen.
