WINDSOR, Ont. – The Durham College women’s fastball began action at the 2011 Canadian Intercollegiate Women's Fastpitch National Championship and ended up with a 2-1 round robin record on Saturday.

The Lords opened up the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Windsor. It was a classic pitching duel between Durham’s Kristine Miles and Windsor’s Kelly Schincariol. Although Miles only allowed two runs on three hits, Schincariol picked up the win holding Durham to just one run.

In game two, Durham beat the Calgary Dinos by a score of 11-0. Shannon Galea picked up the shutout win, striking out six and allowing only one hit. Jenna Dupuis and Jessica Pike each had three hits, while Janna Hagan and Erin McConkey had two singles and two RBI’s apiece. The game was 4-0 heading into the final inning, where Durham broke things open scoring seven runs.

Galea picked up her second win of the day as the Lords beat UNB by a score of 4-3 to wrap up round robin play. The Lords had to make a comeback as UNB scored two first inning runs. Trailing 3-1 in the sixth inning, Durham scored three runs to take a 4-3 lead which was sparked by a Caroline Worotniak two-run double. UNB threatened to take the lead in the seventh inning with runners on the corners, but Galea would strike out the final two batters for the win.

After finishing second in round robin play, Durham (2-1) will meet up with UNB (0-3) in the quarter-finals at 9 a.m.
