Owen Sound Senior Selects Leave
by Fred Wallace Bayshore Broadcasting
The Owen Sound Senior Selects Fastball team is taking a leave of absence for the 2012 season.
Selects President Bill Simpson confirmed the departure this morning noting the Senior level of the Selects fastball program will take the year to reassess and potentially re-organize their operation.
The Selects operate various fastball clubs in Owen Sound ranging from Minor Softball to Junior and, over the past several years, they have also operated a Senior program.
In fact, the Senior Selects were the host team for the Canadian Men's Championship Tournament at Duncan McLellan Park which was staged last summer
Simpson, a lifetime participant in the sport, admits the decision was a difficult one to reach, one that took a lot of the pleasure out of the Christmas season as he considered the move.
He says he needed firm commitments in several areas of the operation and those commitments were tentative, at best.
Simpson stresses the Owen Sound Brick Brothers Volkswagen Junior Selects program is prepared for 2012
Having won the Ontario Championship the past three years, Owen Sound hopes to capture the National Championship this summer when the Canadian Juniors are hosted in Owen Sound.
