Under 21 Fastball in South West Ontario

New Junior Fastball League for South West Ontario

A new junior men's fastball league is set to operate this summer in
south-west Ontario.

5 certainly and possibly 7 fastball teams in the Stratford area have
agreed to form a junior
fastpitch league for the upcoming season.

Stratford, St Mary's, Tavistock and Elmira plus an under 19 club from
New Hamburg, are committed
to the new loop. Two teams one from Mitchell and one from New Dundee are
possible entries into
this league. They will play a 12 - 16 game schedule. An interesting
twist to the eligibility rules may
allow any team in the South Perth League to use a junior division
player as a "call up" eligible player to fill
in a roster spot on the men's squad. This should allow more games for
the younger players, and
add to the bench strength of the men's teams. This will be effectively a
U21 league. U23 age
players will be eligible to play on any of the clubs, similar to the
OHL overage rule.

Murray Patterson of Stratford has worked hard to put this together over
the winter and hopes that it
will suceed and lead to more young players playing fastpitch softball.

For more information on this league or if a player would like to play in
the league Murray can be reached at
