Pete Petrovich, Passes after almost 70 years in fastball!

Eugene 'Pete' Petrovich passed away Sunday April 22, 2012 at the age of 84. Pete was involved in fastball for over 69 years as a player/manager/sponsor since he started playing at the age of 15 in Dundee, MI. He joined the Air Force and played fastball on the Air Force team for a number of years before retiring in 1969 at Scott Air Force Base. He then started playing in the Belleville league in 1970 where he founded Pete's Blues. He was inducted into the Illinois ASA Hall of Fame in 2004. Pete introduced many young men to the game of fastpitch softball and will truly be missed around the ball yards of Southern Illinois. Link to the obit below with additional information.

Eugene J. "Pete" Petrovich, 84, of Mascoutah, Ill., born March 27, 1928, in Detroit, Mich., died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Ill. He is now at home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Pete retired as a Master Sgt. from the U. S. Air Force in 1969; he retired from Civil Service in 1990; and he also worked for Sears and Kmart. He was a member of Faith Family Church in Shiloh, Ill., the American Legion Post 292 in Mascoutah, Ill., lifetime member of the Mascoutah VFW Post 7682, AmVets Post 0161; and was a Korean War and Vietnam War veteran. He was inducted into the Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame; the Granite City Softball Hall of Fame; and the Belleville City League Hall of Fame. For many years, he played for and helped organize the Oldtimers Charity game, raising money for Hospice of Southern Illinois Inc.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rose, nee Kulich, Petrovich; three brothers and three sisters.
Surviving Pete are his wife, Glenda S., nee Conley, Petrovich, whom he married in Wise, W.Va., on June 10, 1958; two children, Karen (Danny) Attayek of Garden City, S.C., and Michael John (Ellie) Petrovich of Columbia, Ill.

Visitation: will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012, and from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012, at the Moll Funeral Home, Mascoutah, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012, at the funeral home with Pastor John Temple officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
