After almost 70 years of involvement in men’s fastpitch, the founder and longtime player, manager, and sponsor of Pete’s Blues Fastpitch, Pete Petrovich, passed away last Sunday, April 22nd.  Pete’s Blues is proud to be one of the longest running teams in Illinois.  The team has a great tradition, and it is a great honor for the 2012 version of Pete’s Blues to be able to continue what Pete started.  Everyone involved with the team is appreciative of Pete Petrovich’s contributions to the game of fastpitch softball.

Pete’s Blues has the same core group of players remaining from the 2008 team that won the Illinois ASA Men’s Open State Tournament and went on to finish in the top 10 at their first ever ISC event, the 2008 ISC II ToC in Appleton, Wisconsin.  The Blues success in 2008 was accomplished with four local arms for its pitching staff—Jason Iuli, Ronnie Ames, Barry Dalmasso, and Al Zobrist. http://fastpitchwest.com/thedeuce/?p=1044

The Blues had a strong showing at their first ISC World Tournament in 2010.  They finished 13th against the best teams in the world with a persistent offense and dominant pitching from Jonas Mach.  http://ottoinfocus.com/?p=4708

Pete’s improved on their 2010 ISC performance at the 2011 ISC WT in Moline, Illinois.  The Blues used a strong, balanced offensive attack with outstanding pitching performances by Penese Iosefo, Joe Crouch, and Troy “Gator” Downen to grind their way through 10 games in 5 days in route to an impressive 8th place finish at the 2011 ISC World Tournament.  Their impressive run to a top 10 finish was rewarded with two selections to the All-World Ballot.  Pete’s had a second pitcher in as many years named to the ISC 2nd-Team All-World with Penese Iosefo.  Plus, Daniel Alstat joined Patrick Shannon as a 1st-Team ISC All-World catcher!

The Blues will compete in their third consecutive ISC World Tournament this year in Midland, MI.  The Blues have upgraded on both sides of the ball, despite the loss of Penese Iosefo, Joe Crouch, and Mark Kleffner—who have decided not to return to the Blues for the upcoming season.  The Blues appreciate their contributions to the team’s success in 2011 and wish them the best wherever they land for 2012.

Joining the Blues pitching staff for 2012 will be Argentina Men’s National Team member Sisko Sabate and 2011 NAFA Hall of Fame Inductee, Jeramie Holman of Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin.  Jeramie is the star pitcher for the long-time Wisconsin powerhouse, New Image (Montfort WI).  Jeramie will obviously be competing with New Image all summer but will make his fourth trip with the Blues to Kelso, Missouri in June to help them defend their 2011 title and will also be travelling to Midland, Michigan with Pete’s for the ISC World Tournament in August.  Sisko and Jeramie will be a very dangerous lefty-righty combination and should keep any team off balance with their unique styles of pitching.

Sisko Sabate, now 29 years old, is well known in the U.S. having come over 11 years ago to play with Salt Lake City.  Sisko has played with his home club of Don Bosco since he was 5, and has won many different national tournaments in all divisions.  He represented Argentina in the 2001 ISF Junior Men’s World Championship and was called up to the Argentina Men’s National Team in 2000 and again in 2005.  Since then, he has competed with the National Team in every tournament except for the 2009 ISF.  Sisko has spent many seasons pitching internationally in Venezuela (’03, ’04, ’07), the Dominican Republic (’06, ’07, ’09), the U.S. (’01, ’02, ’03, ’05, ’08), and Holland (’11).  Sisko last competed in the ISC World Tournament in 2008 with the Pueblo Bandits.  Sisko had a great showing that year finishing with a record of 2-1 and wins against tough Bar of Appleton and Townline lineups.  His only loss that year was a complete, 2 hit, 1-0 game to a very tough Broken Bow team.  Sisko pitched all 7 innings, recording 7 strikeouts and only 2 walks.  Sisko is in the best shape of his career as he prepares for the 2013 ISF Men’s World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand.  He recently helped lead the Spikes (Holland) to a first place finish at the 2011 European Winners Cup.

Our offense and defense will also be improved by the additions of long-time Aurora Dolan & Murphy 3rd baseman Adam Perkins and Argentina Men’s National Team outfielder Nicolas Carril.  Adam Perkins will bring a steady glove to third base and veteran left-handed stick to the middle of the Blues lineup.  Adam joins his brother, Dave, on Pete’s after taking a season off from playing a full schedule of fastpitch.  Adam started playing ISC-level ball at 19 years old, playing for ATMI Precast (Aurora, IL) at the 2002 ISC World Tournament in Kitchener, Ontario.  He helped ATMI win the 2003 ISC 23-under Tournament the following year in Walcott, Iowa.  Now, at 30 years-old, Adam looks forward to competing in his 10th ISC World Tournament.  He is entering the prime of his career as evidenced by his 2009 ISC WT performance in Quad Cities, IA/IL.  Adam batted 0.438 (7 for 16) across five games for the Aurora Dolan & Murphy Shamrocks facing Ashland, California A’s, Pueblo, Kegal, and Aspen.  Adam helped Pete’s Blues capture the 2011 Kelso Klassic title last year and will be a leader for the team during 2012.

Nicolas Carril is a 21-year-old outfielder who represented Argentina in the 2001 ISF Junior Men’s World Championship.  Carril was called up to the Men’s National Team in 2011 and played right field for them during the 2011 Argentina Challenge.  Nicolas plays with Sisko on his home club of Don Bosco and has won many local leagues and tournaments in Argentina.  Nicolas is a powerful right-handed hitter known for his speed in the outfield and on the bases.  He is a very hard-working athlete who loves to compete at the highest level possible.  Nicolas is a great teammate who will fit in perfectly with Pete’s Blues.
