Springfield, Missouri's sister-city from Japan is sending a men's
fastpitch team to play against teams from Springfield and others
interested in playing on June 30 and July 1, 2012.
The Japanese team will play two games on Saturday and two games on
Sunday. Local teams will get the first opportunity but our numbers
are very low. I would expect outside teams will have an opportunity
if they choose. In addition to that, we plan to create a round robin
for any other teams who wish to come to town. This will be a very
informal tournament (no qualifying), but also very inexpensive.
Teams will be required to provide a game ball for each game they play
and will pay for one umpire each game ($30.00). Because there is
also a youth tournament hosted at the same location, admission will
be collected. The park is charging $4.00 for the day with players
admitted free.
There is a $10 field rental for the event which will be split between
the two teams.
For example: Rather than paying $30 for the umpire each team will
pay $35 ($30 to the umpire and $5 to the park).
I understand the date is not great but this is what happens when you
work at the mercy of a team traveling from Japan. We hope to create
and maintain a tournament in Springfield, much like the former Heart
of the Ozarks tournament that was here for many years. This will be
a beginning to that process.
