Sudbury, ON

QUINTON SEALY REMAX (formerly known as the Rick McDonald Memorial Fastball)MEN’S FASTBALL LEAGUE

THE 2012 SEASON GOT UNDERWAY LAST WEEK

Game one      Sudbury North Stars VS First Nation Seminoles
Game two      Garson Hounds  VS The Dog House Sports Bar and Eatery

Being away from ball since last Autumn , showed quite evidently on the field . Both games combined for  9 errors and some were costly . In the opener , new comers the Seminoles took a 3-0 lead into the fourth frame only to have the defending league champs the North Stars score 4 in the bottom of the frames and take a 4-3 lead before it was tied 4-4 .Both teams each score 2 runs and the game finished 6-6 . Both pitchers Jonathan Contin (0-0-0) and Brad Matheson (0-0-0) went the distance .Jonathan giving up 6 hits , 1 base on balls  and 4 strike outs while Brad gave up 6 hits , struck out 5 North Stars and issued  1 single base on balls . In the hitting department , Brendon Biedermen of Seminoles and Chad St Cyr of the North Stars each went 2 for 4 while Curtis Hambley hit a solo a shot to left fiend for the North Stars. On a sad note it was learned that Ryan Bradley’s( coming in late to play right field) young 9 year old son passes away a few days ago following some serious conditions due to   a car accident out west in Alberta . Our hearts and our sympathies go out to Bradley and his family .
In the nightcap , mental and physical errors continued as the boys are just returning from a long Winter and Spring . The Dog House Sports bar under the leadership of veteran Ed Brennan , scored early and often on their way to a 8-6 victory over the Hounds in opening the 2012 campaign . Veteran Pat Brennan Sr following three years of retirement is back in the flow leading his crew to victory on 10 hits ,  not issuing  a single walk while striking out five batters .For the Hounds , Gary Lamothe started (charged with loss) and gave way to Paul Lizotte in the sixth . Both combined to give up  8 hits , strike out 14 batters and  issue 3 base on balls . In the hitting department , Todd Parsons led the Hounds going 3 for 4 including a two run blast to left field while Ed Brennan hit 2 for 4 including a two run homer –both Ed and Todd are catchers .
Starting next week we will be awarding the Toppers defensive player of the week as well as the Toppers offensive player of the week . There will also be the Sportswear award for player of the week.
Play resumes tonight Monday May 28th in Azilda when  the Dog House take on the North Stars at 7 PM while in the nightcap , the Seminoles face the Hounds under the lights at 9 PM
