Robert "Milt" Milton Hand passes

Robert "Milt" Milton Hand, age 58, of Rock Island, died Saturday, June 30,
2012 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2012 at Esterdahl
Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is 3:00-7:00
p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial is at Moline Memorial Park. In
lieu of flowers, it was Milt's wishes that memorials may be made to the Milt
Hand Benefit Fund thru I.H. Mississippi Valley Credit Union.

Milt was born October 7, 1953 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Kenneth and Evelyn
Foster Hand. He married Sheree A. DePooter on May 23, 1981 in Bettendorf.

Milt was employed by the City of Moline for 30 years, the last 15 years as
the Director of Parks and Recreation. During his tenure, he was instrumental
in bringing ASA National Championship tournaments to Moline and was the
Tournament Director in 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. He also served on the
boards for the Quad Cities Sports Commission and the Convention & Visitors
Bureau. Milt retired in October 2008 and then worked as a courier for the
IHMV Credit Union for the past three years. Milt was an ASA umpire for 35
years. In 2004, he was inducted into the Illinois ASA Hall of Fame. Then, in
2010, he received the distinction of ASA Elite Umpire. Milt served on the
Illinois ASA Executive Board for 31 years. In recent years, he was the J.O.
UIC for the state of Illinois. In addition to ASA, Milt was an NCAA women's
softball umpire for 18 years. His proudest moment was umpiring the 2010 NCAA
Super Regional at UCLA. Other accomplishments in softball include umpiring
home plate for 2 Olympic exhibition games, as well as the ISC Men's World II
championship game. He also umpired in 14 ASA National Championship
tournaments. When he had time, Milt enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling.
