Cephas Roth Memorial Tournament July 12th to 15th - Tavistock Ontario

July 11, 2012

Tavistock, ON

The finishing touches are under way as Tavistock prepares to welcome the fastball World to our beautiful little village in just a few short days. Our annual event has grown with each passing year and this year's event promises to be the biggest and best to date. Twelve World class teams, loaded with the best international and local players in the game, will battle it out for four consecutive days at our beautiful Queens and Optimist Parks. The current top three club teams on the planet as well as the always tough 2012 ISC Host team Midland Explorers will headline what promises to be a hard fought tournament with many exciting match ups !!

The format for this years' event has been altered slightly from previous years due to the accumulation of 12 teams. We will be going with three pools of four teams for the round robin portion of the tournament. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the Quarter Finals Saturday night along with the two highest finishing third place teams. The bottom four teams will compete in a 'B' playoff round with semi final and final games at both parks commencing Sunday at 9:00am.
Please see Al's "news" for the full tournament schedule as previously posted.

The GREEN Pool will include the 2012 Legends Champion Hill United Chiefs, the Elmira Expos, Kitchener Outlaws and the Scarborough Force.
The GREY Pool will be comprised of the defending World Champion Jarvis Travelers, the Midland Explorers, Toronto Gators and the Port Elgin Blue Devils..
Finally the BLACK Pool will consist of the 2012 Peligro Champion New York Gremlins, local favourites the Shakespeare Falcons, Kitchener Cubs and the Wiarton Nationals.

Our local committee has always strived to make this annual event about much more than great fastball action. This year's event will again not disappoint in that regard. Back by popular demand Katie Roth (niece of Cephas) and her band 24 Karat will perform in the Queens Park beverage tent BOTH FRIDAY and SATURDAY night this year. Nobody can rock a party quite like Katie and her group, so make plans to take in the show to wind down after both evenings of exciting diamond action. Our Tavistock Athletics Junior Men's team will be on hand from Thursday evening to Sunday evening to accommodate your "thirst" requirements in our licensed area !! The Bantam Boys team will again take care of your nutritional needs on the grill all weekend with our world renowned bbq delights. Make sure you wish the boys on the grill "Good Luck" as they have qualified to compete in the Ontario Summer Games this August!! The remainder of our Minor Ball teams and parents will be on hand the entire weekend working the gates, selling our 50/50 draw tickets, running for water, grooming diamonds and hopefully providing an answer to any question you may have throughout the weekend.

In the spirit of promoting youth and sport, the North Waterloo Bantam Boys All Star game will again take centre stage on the main diamond at Queens Park Saturday at 4:30pm. Come out and support the fastball super stars of tomorrow.

Camping will again be available for a nominal fee to those that are interested. Spaces are limited so please contact me by email at "davebailey@baileyconstruction.ca" if you plan to bring your trailer for the weekend stay.

Opening Ceremonies will take place with the Roth Family on hand on the Queens park Diamond Friday July 13th just prior to the 7:00pm game.

We are pleased to announce that Al Doran will be on hand the entire weekend posting live updates across the fastball globe. Our friends from Ballpark Radio will also be with us throughout the weekend so look for a broadcast schedule from Kyle and crew soon. Dennis Dosman and his tireless crew of announcers, scorers and games controllers will be on hand to make sure that everything runs smoothly on the diamonds. Paul Baier and his "Crew In Blue" are also set to officiate some of the best fastball match ups on the planet.

I believe that we are ready. Now all we need is sunshine, a little less heat and all of you to join us in Tavistock for what promises to be a weekend full of excitement and great action.
Hope to see you all in Tavistock July 12th to the 15th.
