CANADIAN U21 CHAMPIONSHIPS in Owen Sound August 6th to the 12th..

"Any one of these teams can win it" says Jamie Simpson of the Owen
Sound Volkswagon Selects U21 team.

Jamie's forecast is right on the money..If they are coming to Duncan
McLelland Park next week, they want to win, and they are prepared to
win. We might think that Owen Sound and Walkerton and Wiarton are
strong clubs here in this part of Ontario, but one of the Alberta
teams, Irma Tigers has placed 5 players on the Team Canada Selection
camp being held the week following the Canadian championships in
nearby Cambridge.

The Softball Canada U21s open up on Civic holiday monday at Duncan
McLelland Park in Owen Sound. The 4 Ontario teams all play on Monday,
8:30 am the Wiarton Red Devils vs BC's Fleetwood Marlins on Diam 2,
Walkerton Wild vs Keeseekoose Chiefs of Sask. at 10am on Diam 1, Oshawa
Double B's on Diam 2 at 10 30, vs Irma Tigers from Alberta, and at 12
noon, Owen Sound VW up against Calahoo Alberta Chiefs.

Each Ontario team has a second game on Monday..Walkerton vs Kelly's Pub
Canadian's from Newfoundland at 2pm, Wiarton meets the Newfoundland
team at 9pm Monday...Oshawa meets Keeseekoose (Sask) at 2:30 and Owen
Sound plays thier opening day 2nd game at 7;15 up against the Saskatoon
Bullets...

The full preliminary draw is attached..playoffs begin on Friday evening
with the "lower bowl" consolation round championship round is on
Saturday and runs thru to Sunday afternoon.

This is a great field, 13 teams from BC to Newfoundland, 4 well
matched Ontario teams, teams from Alberta, and Saskatchewan, Quebec and
Prince Edward Island...

Last year Owen Sound produced a great Canadian Men's championship,
Newfoundland vs Kitchener Twins. The Twins won..I wonder if it will
be a Newfoundland vs Ontario again in this years U21 final....or a
rematch of the Ontario championships...

Hope to see many of you Ontario fastpitch softball fans in Owen Sound
this week...
