Well the Falls tournament wrapped up Sunday with an exciting day of fastpitch watched by a great crowd all day. Thanks to the coaches and managers for organizing your teams, the volunteers who give up their weekend for us especially Al Greatrix who keeps things in order all weekend. Big thank you to our beer tent volunteers, New York Style deli and GNBA who run food and concessions, the City Staff, Adam Hook UIC and all the Blue Crew who did a fantastic job all weekend and of course all the players. Two Niagara teams who know each other very well reach the A finals. Tazco jumps out to a quick 1-0 lead in the T1 after a leadoff double by Pat Mcloy is cashed by a Tom Berube double. The Fury would answer in B1 with 2 runs, after a Phil John single is cashed by an Adam Dearborn double. Steve Gillis then cashes Dearborn with a single. The Fury would add to the lead in the second when Rob Greatrix singles home a Mike Joseph double for a 3-1 Fury lead. Linton is cruising until the 5th when Adam Breadner bunts his way aboard and Rick Kinzel hits a 2 run HR and were all tied at 3. In the 8th Phill John reached first on an error and promptly steals 2nd. Tazco intentionally walks Dearborn and Berube gets the next two outs. With runners still at first and second and two out Kevin Newhouse cashes the winning run with a solid single. Great game with two long time friendly rivals.

Well that’s it for another year for our tourney Al. Personally I’d like to thank all the teams and congratulate the 4 Niagara based teams that entered the tournament, Fury and Tazco who made it to A finals, Dawgs for reaching B finals and Jordan for winning C finals. Also congrats to fellow GHFL team Palermo who had the best overall preliminary record and lost a tight game to Tazco in the A semi.

thanks, Al
