Softball New Zealand has been forced to downsize its operation as a result of a loss of funding from the Community Trust of New Zealand.
Chief executive Dane Dougan said head office had dropped from 12 to seven positions and among the lost roles are four development officers and the high performance manager.
Dougan said the country's three regional managers had been retained but the organisation is advertising for a national development officer, two organisation and softball development officers and a tournament and event co-ordinator.
Dougan said he would be taking over some of the high performance management as would the softball manager.
Dougan said so far as the Black Sox were concerned ahead of their world championships in Albany next year it was 'business as usual'.
He had sat down with the team management on Wednesday and he said they had been 'pretty happy' with arrangements made which include an internal tour in November.
It is a troubling time for the game which for several years has struggled for a profile among the country's summer sports.
It hadn't been helped by the New Zealand women finishing 13th, when a top eight place was the goal, at the recently completed world championships.
